Forums - Gaming - Square Enix Wants to Localize Dragon Quest VII and X but Can't

Well maybe if you didn't spend eight years devloping lackluster FFXIII games and not releasing FFXV you'd have the nickles it would cost to release a remake and make a profit.

DQs popularity is the main reason they don't want to bring it over. It may be profitable in the end, but i'm assuming their logic is why waste resources on that when they can have employees do something else with a higher return.

Then again FFXV has been in development for 8 years so what do I know?

Eight years!? You're kidding right?

How about Dragon Quest Monsters??? Get that shit over here SE... Jerks.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

So they have some 100 lines of new text from the PS1 version and that is too expensive to translate?? Use google translate, charge a little less and everyone is happy.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I think they did that many years ago, I played DQ7 on Playstation One

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

In terms of DQVII, it has a lot of text to go through and translate, and we’ve received so many requests and so much positive feedback about the game, but unfortunately, we have to consider the cost and the manpower needed to handle the sheer load of text. In terms of scenario and script, the game is probably one of the largest in the DQ franchise. If a lot of people can buy it and support it… well, we can’t promise anything.

What a joke.

If they're afraid of the cost, they can let the translation to the fans, it will be free and probably great. then they can releas ethe game on the E-store = 100% profit.

Square-enix...

Given their explanation, they probably Bandai'd the code. If they did shit to begin with, it costs a lot to translate. Like Bandai's games.

Yeah. "Can't." Right. Totally believable.

The localized DQVII on PS1. I owned the game. They are full of shit.

What irks me is the spin-off titles bit... I purposely skipped those things because I wanted the real deal, not some spin off. Oh well, guess I'll get my fill on Playstation instead (which is working as intended).

This is why I don't see why that companies like Sega, Square Enix, etc, turn to a company like Kickstarter or do preorders for localization and as long as they get a set amount of preorders in a certain amount of time, then they will start localization of the game.

With as many interviews as journalists have with these higher ups, why haven't they ever mentioned the possibility of this.  Gaming journalists are stupid.
