Forums - Gaming - Is anyone getting the feeling that the market is getting too crowded?

Now that everyone and their mom is releasing Wii mini-games, and Xbox allowing download of old xbox games + XNA stuff. We have Xbox Live and PSN games, PS1 games, Virtual Console... All this before we get to what we call "new" store bought games.

Does anyone think all this choice is starting to bog down the gamers and is starting to dilute the industy?

I sure do...

For example, I really wanted to play Omega 5, but I just don't have the time as the flow of new games keeps incoming at the rapid pace.

Maybe I'm getting old. but does anyone else wish things would slow down just a tad?

Nah i think there were more choices in the PS1 and PS2 era and this gen i feel is lacking games.

No, I don't want things to slow down. If you ask me, things aren't moving fast enough! No one is forcing you to buy every new release right away. Go right ahead and play Omega 5 if that's what you wish to do.

I am pretty confident you are wrong. PS1 era had like 2 games a week for PS1, and 1 game every week for the saturn and N64 (if you're lucky), and thats it. Nowadays you get 2 or 3 xbox/ps3 games...a crapload of wii stuff and then couple of downloadable games plus old classics every couple of weeks. Ad the number of demos you get to preview and you got your hands full. Ps2 era I think had more actual store bought games but none of this VC/Xbox live nostalgia and none of the downloadable content for games. Overall I believe there was much less choice before this generation.

I don't think you understand my point of view. Maybe you have all the time in the world but with work and my other responsibilities/hobbies I can dedicate an hour or 2 every day to gaming. I'd love to play Omega 5...but other stuff keeps coming out that looks just a little bit more engaging.

Flooded with great games is ok, because when we hit a dry time for games, you have those unplayed good games to fall back on.

But seriously, there is nothing wrong with ton's of good games coming out. I mean sure you have to look closely at which one you want more, which one is worth the time, but it's really not that big of a deal.

I agree completelty, too many good games in one year, I have to teach myself only to stick with the AAA Square-Enix and Nintendo games now.

I went with gamefly game rentals or I would be poor! also its numbing what do I play out of my 60 game library oh crap another game just released I need that too. Such a problem gonna finally spend sometime with Assasins creed just beat DMC4! ya I agree I already downloaded 1 xbox game 10 virtual console games and a few PS1 games.

If you have one console the options are less overwhelming!

Nope. I think things are going just fine.

It's been this way for a while. The PS2 was getting flooded with great releases during the tail end of 2005 and all of 2006, and the DS library got quite a few noteworthy titles in that span too (as well as during 2007). Best not to let it get to you; get the ones you want, and play them at your leisure. Eventually, the industry will slow down as usual, and you'll catch up with the flood.
