spemanig said: The best way to put it is that it's a melding pot of different games. It's like an open world, platformer, hack-n-slash, RPG...ish. It's Zelda-Prince of Persia-God of War-and any WRPG. That sounds awesome, but it's not as good any any of them. It's Zelda, but less the world is less interesting. It's Prince of Persia, but less precise. It's God of War, but less epic. It's still good, but no where near the some of it's parts. |
This.
To me it is very much a continuation of "Zelda - E3 Tech Demo".
Every time I try to say that it IS "Zelda" purists come with a lot of arguments that it is not. To me it is a "dark", "mature", "gritty", "realistic", Zelda.
There are no "funny" side quests, no fishing, no quirkiness. Dungeons are very much Zelda, with "puzzles" that requires "Prince of Persia" wall-running. There are RPG elements in how you level up your gear and abilities. There is freedom as you can encounter bosses that are way above your current level, but you can still fight them. The NPCs are as stupid as ordinary Zelda NPCs: they stand around waiting for the "hero" to do all the work.
There may still be life in this franchise: http://www.gengame.net/2014/07/nordic-games-talks-about-the-future-of-darksiders-and-red-faction/
The user reviews are very good even the one that gives it a score of 6: http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/darksiders-ii
