 i have to look them up.. there is actually on that a group from florida made. They have apparently been making the game sereis for like 10 years or something like that.

Ya this was a great genre, that has sadly died in the last 10 years or so. Starlancer, Xwing, Freespace 2 these were great games/series', I really wish they would come out witih some new ones.

Space sims > Realistic Flight sims

Wow, the hours I spent playing Xwing and Tie Fighter... One of these days I'll fire up Dosbox and have some fun again :)

Because no one wants to use these anymore other than me.


I personally think Chris Roberts was on the right path to bring space sims back to life with Freelancer as well as to a more casual market. It was a great spiritual sucessor to the original Privater and suprisingly actually fun to play with a mouse. To bad MS caned Digital Anvil.

How much http://www.eve-online.com/ is different from what you want? I heard it's pretty hardcore.

Here's how combat works in Eve. You figure out what range you want to engage the enemy at, plug it in, and the computer tries to keep you at that range. Then, you get to toggle weapons and devices on and off until you win.

Most boring combat system ever. It's not a space flight sim, it's a space accountant sim. 

Yeah. EVE Online is very cool, but it is very much not a space combat sim. It is an MMORPG.
