How much polygons GT cars have?

They went up to 500k in photomode. No idea what sort of LOD transitions it had for standard gameplay.

Polygons are a pretty pointless direct metric these days though. More is always better of course (assuming all other factors are identical), but a car with a lower triangle count can easily look better than one with more. There are several other factors to consider.

The real story here is that PC version has 300k polygons versus just 60k on PS4.

Those claiming PS4 is as powerful as PC should now be quiet

Who claimed that?

There are literally dozens of them globally.

Dozens!

This all boils down to the different design philosophies of sony and MS.

MS built a media box first to dominate the living room or all home entertainment and tied together with kinect. An a game console second. To them, they seemed to feel that a game console was suddenly not all that, that 900p or less was just enough for games and whats more important is TV and voice controls. They were wrong. Cause its the gamers that early adopy your living room hardware and then start using it for other stuff. They are also the ones that talks people into buying your box that would typically never buy it.

Sony, just made as good a console as they could afford to make with the intention to tack everything else onto it. Its working....

Agreed good post. Honestly it was dumb of ms to go with cable tv. Tv right now is changing drastically with how people are watching it. Trying to invest in it seems to risky.

I rally have no idea who in microsoft thought that was all a good idea. Who thought that people cared about TV? Who thought that people wanted kinect? Who thought that the whole DRM thing was going to go down well with people?

If i didn't know better (which I don't) I would have said sony planted  someone in the xbox camp to make them just do everything that no one wanted. cause thats excatly what MS did. I really can't think of one right decision they made with the XB1, from its design to thier policies. This is even all more shocking considering they were the harbingers of sony's demise with the PS3. And to think that a team of at least 100 people at one point in time or the other had a say in the direction they were going.

shocking.

So PC on ultra will have 5 times as many polygons per car as PS4.

That's what it says, and that's not surprising. It has been in development on PC for much longer.

How much of a power metric advantage do the highest end PC GPUs have over the PS4 GPU? Is it 5-fold?

As someone with access to project cars, let me put it this way.

You're not running PCars on ultra at 60fps unless your rig is extreme.

But to answer specifically, let's compare a single PS4 to a single 780TI phantom

PS4:
32 rops
25.6 gpixel/s
1152 shaders
800mhz
1.84 tflops

780TI
48 rops
47 gpixel/s
2880 shaders
980mhz
5.04 tflops

loads morer rop units, almost twice the pixelrate, 2.5x the shaders, 180mhz faster core, 2.4x faster overall, much much faster ram (7000mhz as apposed to ps4's 5500mhz)

A single 780TI isn't enough to run PCars at 1080p/60fps stable on ultra, two in SLI will get you there, which is more or less 5x the raw numbers of the PS4, but in terms of actual operating speed, even higher.

So if two of them are 5 times as powerful as PS4, one is roughly 2.5 times more powerful?

Thanks for the clarification guys.

the other thing to factor in is the much more beefier CPU which is entirely separate from the GPU, unlike the APU on the PS4, so the CPU on most ultra-setting gamers is going to walk all over the PS4's cpu, too.

For the type of game it is, and the number of vehicles on screen, 60,000 on a console is pretty good, and frankly, despite being a pc guy myself, at 1080p with good AA, for most cars you won't notice the difference in polycount unless the car has a lot of actual structure to it, the average smooth curved car won't show it at all.
