Its not selling well because Sony has turned the PS3 into a Western Console to compete with the 360 abroad.

Simple as that.

^This. Very good point. Is this one of the reasons you don't really like PS3?

I don't like the PS3 because it was a clumsy arrogant and awkward product forced onto the market three to five years before it was economically viable. Forced Blu-Ray on any PS3 consumer increasing the price tag exponentially. And since then has offered many games either ruined by the pitiful six-axis, ridden with glitches due to poor programming, that look better on the 360 or require loading large chunks of data onto the HDD.

Not to mention the PS3 has all but abandoned Backwards Compatibility and even when it did have it, the system required firmware updates to make it work right and adaptors to use memory cards and other accessories. Let's also not forget "Rumble" being last gen, yet now they somehow miraculously find a way to include it but at the same time not bundle it with the console.

I have a different viewpoint. I love new technology and feel Sony is the only one giving us the future. To my knowledge there is only one game ruined by sixxaxis and that was Lair and they are fixing it. :) Look at how many Wii games have been ruined by "waggle". The poor programming is the 3rd parties fault (EA). Backwards compatibility is not dead. There are rumors going around the PS forums that it will be available for download on PSN for the current 40gb owners in the near future. You do not need an adapter to use memory cards on your PS3, only to transfer data from your PS2 memory card. Rumble wasn't included because of liscensing problems. Sony did lie about that one though, they made an excuse to cover it up. I will get to my point, Sony has been a bit dishonest in some areas regarding the PS3. But I believe it was necessary for them to give us a system that is as future proof as possible.

Delivering the future doesn't matter if its a future five years too early. So far this "future" consists of clumsy-glitchy-short games, typically lesser graphics than an inferior console, shitty motion controls, no backward compatibility and a ridiculous price tag. The future is what can be sold in the $200-$300 comfort range for consumers, i.e. the threshold of the market economy, not what can be made with the raw resources and technology available.

You know I want a flying car as much as the next kid, but I think I'll be content to have one with wheels for the time being.

Why would that be enough?

Isn't that like your favorite game?  I mean, playing the game you love should be enough to enjoy any console.

I'm just as anti-Nintendo as you are anti-sony, and Mario made me enjoy the Wii.

I don't really care that much about RE5, I just see it as a decisive chip to be played in the console wars. And I could just as easily play it on the 360 or the Pc in the future if I wanted to.

Look at the computer field though, people say computers are outdated within 6 months. Of course you can use one for years and get good use out of it. HDTV's have been out for quite some time, and the PS3 is made to take advantage of them. I do not believe the technology in the PS3 is 3 to 5 years down the road. The video card in the PS3 has been outdated for years. :) I guess we just have different tastes. But I feel like the PS3 should have been released 3 years ago instead of 2.

Unfortunately the PS3 hasn't delivered on any of this, instead it has crippled its own market. You're just arguing what could be, not what is or will be. You're living in lala land. Wake up. Reality says hi.

@x-man

one game won't do wonders for ps3. It's userbase is under 2 million.

ps3 lost in Japan and you guys know it. a lot of you just don't want to admit it. Nintendo's new approach took off.

@xiru
are you dumb? you said the Wii is having good sales because of smash and wiifit? What about most of 2007? There wasn't one good game on the Wii in Japan in the 1st 3 quarters of 2007 yet Wii murdered Ps3. Just face it guys. The console war in Japan ended.

Leave it to a Wiiboy to turn this into a Sony vs. Nintendo thread.

I was merely replying to the OP regarding the PS3 being 'dead' in Japan, which is clearly wishful thinking.

And yes, FFXIII will do wonders for the PS3.

Sales will increase somewhat with the impending release of MGS4, even more with GT5, and they'll sky rocket with FFXIII.

What hasn't it delivered? Your post just seems like a personal attack and doesn't contain a point.  How has it crippled the market? The Wii is the console that has crippled the market. 10 million party games have confused the consumer and they actually buy them... How am I in lala land? I enjoy my PS3 a lot and believe it takes advantage of HDTV's. I live in reality and reality is that technology changes faster than you imagine. The PS3 is actually behind technologically.

 Sadly, I can't stay up for the response. Real tired. I enjoyed debating with you all and hope that one day we can all play PS3 together. :) And Girl Gamer, the PS3 really isn't bad. One day just give it a chance, I bet you will enjoy at least some of the games. Good night.

Call me picky, I know, but that's just how I roll.

That's the most unnecasary biased hate I read in a while. I see you for who you truely are now. I'm almost sorry I asked.

Most of Japanese gamers are still satisfied with their PS2s. If and when the next-gen consoles have enough titles that appeal to Japanese gamers, then you'll see a tidal shift of them adopting the newer platform. I think games like MGS4, GT5, FF13 will help PS3 alot (people go nuts for these games over here). And also the anticipated multiplatform games like Resident evil 5 will boost PS3 sales much more than for the 360.
