Forums - Sales - Why is PS3 dead in Japan?

why know did the op dicide to bring this topic up now? is it cause the ps3 is outselling the 360 EVERYWARE?, even in america? the place where people said that will NEVER happen?. or is it cause all of the good news in just one day?, somebody please tell me................the bottom line is, the ps3 in not dead in japan. when mgs4 comes out we will all see how dead it is in japan, and dont nobody bring up past sales and all this talk of past games didn't do that good. this game is a differint beast all together. and wii only has 6 million consoles sold............wait scratch, that the wii doesint even matter! its i its own market, is has no effect on the ps3 what so ever.

Most of Japanese gamers are still satisfied with their PS2s. If and when the next-gen consoles have enough titles that appeal to Japanese gamers, then you'll see a tidal shift of them adopting the newer platform. I think games like MGS4, GT5, FF13 will help PS3 alot (people go nuts for these games over here). And also the anticipated multiplatform games like Resident evil 5 will boost PS3 sales much more than for the 360.

Also, I think your list might be biased, because it doesn't include big Wii japanese released, like Monster Hunter 3, Brawl, Kart, Fit, or Zelda.

Those games definately boost sales a lot. Think of all the Wii has going for it already, and a future price drop, it really has just as much Japanese stuff as the PS3 atm from a sales perspective.

I was not talking about the Wii. The Wii will keep selling, but it doesn't mean that the PS3 is dead. In Japan, Sony still has an strong brand in the Playstation. PS3 will do admirable sales eventually, I am sure of it.

Thanks.  It's good to get an explanation from someone in Japan explain the situation.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

With all the supposed good news for Sony lately, people sure have been ignoring the fact the PS3 is dead in Japan. Sales are down down down to a pitiful 18,000 or less per week again.

Without it's home territory embracing it, how can PS3 be as strong as people claim (even though it's sales are not so good anywhere)? It's like PS3's skeleton in the closet, people dont speak aboput PS3's horrible, horrible sales in Japan.

PS3 sales are not so good anywhere? What are you looking at nexgenwars.com?

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

IMVHO the Japanese right now are happy with Wii, when PS3's price will drop and game availability will better they'll buy more of them. Enthusiasm, fashion and craze are often "monogamic" emotions, so they are crazy for Wii like everybody else in the world and more logical with PS3.

Rumor has it RE5 will be made a Wii exclusive, however this is just from one of the popular video game rumor vendors in the industry, no one else has coroborated it yet or even hinted at its likelihood.

While the RE5 petition is gaining more and more ground every day, there is plenty of room for the game to go either direction.

@DMeisterJ

Speaking of Trolls, which one of us is actually making constructive arguments and participating in discussion (you) and which one is making hit and run comments attacking an individual out of context of the discussion (me)?

Fix'd.

But really.  What constructive argument are you making?  All I can see is that you hate Sony because of Firmware updates.... very constructive.

Yeah would just scrap over everything. Accept it wii is not powerful enough to render this game, and if they really did it would be really waterdown port.

is the topic creator really silly? 18 000 in Japan is normal. Why?
They are waiting Yakuza 3 next week with Silver PS3.
2008 is the beginning of the end for RODbox, for sure.

I wish people would stop saying it needs a price cut in Japan because it already has the lowest prices in the world. The 40gb can be picked up for less than $330 in some shops.

Not only does it have the cheapest prices in Japan, it also has new controllers and a new color.

How much is the wii in japan?
