For the last few weeks the Wii U eshop has had decent sales of a variety of NES games (as long as you owned NES Remix 1 or 2) and this week and next they will have sales celebrating the new Smash Bros.

I have always been dissatisfied with the discounts on Wii U but now it seems like Nintendo are beginning to see that discounts can help drive sales. And that digital purchases can be a huge thing. In the past 3 weeks I have bought about 10 NES titles with only a little regret for the money I spent (sorry wallet).

I mean it's great that a trickle of classic games is added to the eshop slowly, but their pricing is always more than I am willing to spend. I always wish they will go on sale and now I believe the chance of them doing so is much higher than it was before.

Now I have high hopes (well not THAT high) that Nintendo will add more games to the eshop and will at one time or another put them on sale too.

So has anyone spent more lately due to the discounts and/or do you think Nintendo are getting their act together in the digital store department?

ye you are right i think they are slowly learning with the discounts. I would like to see vc games become cheaper over all. But i just bought mario 3 for the 10th time, dam you nintendo and your discounts haha

They have been listening quite a bit lately. Its not that much yet, but its getting better.
Gives me hope for more virtual console support in the future.

Nintendo has a hard time discounting anything. Their retail titles almost never go down in price either... I am hopeful that they will learn how to effectively manage their pricing model to increase demand, but I am certainly not planning on it. Almost all the discounts on the eshop tend to be from third party software... So yeah, I dont think nintendo has learned very much...

Yeah because 4.99 is so expensive for NES VC games on a FREE online service,when they were 29.99 at the point of release in the 80's.

Step by Step right? I just wished they took bigger and more frequent steps but oh well. It's better then nothing

I've been a bit underwhelmed personally. I feel like the Virtual Console is something that currently really sets Nintendo apart from the competition and something that in my opinion (bound to catch hate here) is the most appealing thing about the Wii U.

So it's frustrating to wait all week, boot up the eshop and see some obscure NES game, one game, and that's it. I feel like they could add more games each week and add more desirable titles. Don't get me wrong, occasionally we get some really good stuff and I've been really pleased with the GBA stuff they added.

But as far as the announcements go it seems they always say they are going to do things and we never see them. What happened to DS games on the VC? That was announced forever ago. Capcom listed a ton of awesome stuff I really want, nothing yet..... I start to feel these things will never materialize.

On a side note Nintendo should do a small 50 dollar Playstation Tv like device that allows full Virtual console availability without owning a full priced console.

As far as sales go they are okay I guess. The retail sales are usually still not as cheap as physical disks and most the discounts on indie and 3ds games are usually only a couple dollars off. Last thing I bought on sale from them was Cave Story I think.

NES games were 50 dollars new if I recall. I was very young then.
