Forums - Nintendo - The hidden monster call Mario Party

MP8 is good, save for the lack of widescreen and I felt the board design was terribly uninspired (save for DK Jungle).

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

My guess is that Mario Party 9 will sell worse than Mario Party 8. I personally wouldn't buy either one. I stopped caring about Mario Party after 6. I mean honestly, has any Mario Party game ever really improved upon it's predecessor? No. It's played out, and the only reason 8 sold so m uch is because it was made by Nintendo for the Wii.

Mario Party isn't really a game that can or needs to be 'improved' beyond recognition. It is dependant on its two gameplay components: boards, and minigames. If you change those boards, the items on those boards, and the minigames, you end up with a different Mario Party experience altogether. Or in other words it has Mega Man syndrome. As such it can't really play itself out because the only recurring thing is the premise and the rules. So really it's all about the quality in the individual ideas.

That said, I felt that Mario Party was dropping in quality by the time it jump shipped to the Gamecube. That's why it really surprises me when people cry about Mario Party 8 - the cube games weren't anything to write home about either.

MARIO PARTY 9's MAIN FEATURE SHOULD BE ONLINE PLAY. END OF STORY.

If that were to happen, MP9 would be the highest selling game the Wii will have, TRUMPING SSBB, SMG and maybe MKWii altogether. Hands down.

Mario Party 8 is the biggest monster of them all

Monster is right, being probably the worst Mario Party game, 8 sold better than ever.

What 9 need isn't Galaxy graphics (although it wouldn't hurt), it's capable Wiimote control,

God, even a true Widescreen mode would help.

I only see Sony games under your profile. How do you know MP8 is the worst one? How many MP games have you played? None? Just trying to down play the Wii as normal?

Mario Party 8 is actually pretty fun.

The reason MP8 is so successful is it matches the Wii audience very well, and because most people buying it have never played a Mario Party game before to know how inferior this version is (it's still fun though).

And based on the declining returns on this series I'm not surprised Hudson Soft didn't put a lot of effort into it.

However, knowing what a beast they have on their hands, I'd expect MP9 to be a far superior version with much more waggle control, better gameplay overall, better graphics, etc. And if that's the case, it should deservably outsell MP8.

OP: List is out of order! Mario Party DS is actually the second best-selling MP game, with over 3M sold.

Mario Party 8 and DS could combine for 10M sold. MP8 is selling so well, and there are so many other party games out there now, and so many huge titles for the first half of the year, that Nintendo may hold MP9 for Xmas this year, or even next year, in which case MP8 could end up over 6M by itself. And MP: DS should move well past 4M.

The first 8 Mario Parties (1-7, Advance) combined sold about 15M.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Why was the review scores that low for a high selling game? One reason of course is that the reviewers are hardcore gamers, their expectation of games are different from casuals. The other reasons, IMO, are that the graphics are only as good as Gamecube games, it doesn't make much use of motion control and the game is too short, etc. Technical reasons

^ so true on most casual games
mario party is great, i loved it since i had the first one

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Mario Party 8, though not as good as the N64 ones from my childhood (never owned the ones on GC), is still fun in multiplayer. I don't know why people think it is so bad. Plus, one of the main criticisms on the reviews was that it was the same Mario Party we've been seeing for almost 10 years, with little innovation.
