Forums - Sales - Why is the PSP Dead?

how the hell could anyone keep a straight face and say the psp is dead. did you see the holiday sales. it sold out everywhere. to date the PSP is the most successful hand held not made by nintendo and there are no plans for a successor in sight. I honestly don't see sony making a new one till nintendo does and that could be years from now.

The PSP had the Playstation name, it had hype, it had strong financial support, and superior tech... and it still failed miserably as a gaming device.

So if the PSP is a failure at 31 million, then the GC must have been a really big failure at 21-25 million.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

As a multimedia device, it does ok but pales to the success of the iPod. The hardware margins are probably 10x larger on iPods. Also, the PSP doesn't sell much music and video, whereas lots of music and video is sold through the iTunes store.

PSP is dead as a gaming device.

Stop trying to use its success as a cheap Blackberry to kid yourself its laying the ground work for a future in portable gaming.

PSP isnt dead..but the DS is kicking its ass really really bad.

 Fixed for Accuracy.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

That's the harsh reality, lol. I don't think those few who own one for gaming are getting a bad deal though. It still gets decent support, despite its inability to sell anything that isn't skype.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

The PSP isn't really dead.. Sony has created the most successful nin-Nintendo handheld and its actually doing quite well. Its just that it wasn't this generation's walkman like Sony had hoped and nobody really took to the UMD format.

PSP is doing ok, its just that Nintendo has created a more fun system and the market reflects that.

It can still move some software. I don't think it's dead yet. If you want dead, just look at the PS3 in Japan. Now that's dead, lol!
