This does happen frequently though.

I've only seen the PS4 compared to the PS2 by people thonking it will outsell it. 

And...?

It has outsold it so far. It's the fastest selling console ever released vs. the highest selling console ever. It's a valid comparison.

PS3 WAS compared to PS2...a LOT. 3DS is compared to DS because it's a direct successor. PS4 is often compared to PS3 (it's dominating it) and even PS2 (it's comfortably ahead of it). It's the same with everything else. PSV is compared to PSP. One is compared to 360.

It's not that 3DS is being bashed, it's just that it's massively down on last generation. That is not an opinion or a biased statement. It's a fact you can check out for yourself.

I'm unsure where I implied the 3DS isnt selling worse than the DS. I'm not blinding myself from facts or deluding myself or whatever you're trying to say.

 

I just think expecting a console to sell just like it's predesessor, when it's predessesor is the highest selling of it's kind of all time, in a market that's shrinking due to smartphones and tablets, is....silly.

I never implied any of that...

But okay, that's what you think and you give valid reasons for the declines. But if we didn't compare the sales we wouldn't know if handhelds were declining or not...What exactly do you have against the comparisons?

It could be interpreted either way, the PS2's next closest competitor had some definite advantages but no established namesake.

The PS4 does have to compete with an established namesake, but the only debatable advantage seems to be Xbox Live's reputation. (keyword there: reputation)

I think it will pass the psp easily, nintendo just needs to add a new peripheral to an umpcoming hardware revision like what they did to DSi by adding a camera, or make a slim 3DS I mean most DS's sold were slim DS's.

It has virtually no chance of passing it. It has hit the typical decline part of Nintendo consoles' sales curve. Won't take that long from here for it to almost stop selling. I see a successor being announced next year, too, which will accelerate the decline.

A succesor being announced next year. Yeah no, there won't be a ninth gen console coming out soon.  If ninty does that they will literally be shooting themselves in the foot.

Nintendo has still a lot of card to play true 3DS is doing a lot worse then last years but sale are still decent



PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

No...3DS is already declining fast and WiiU is not picking up the slack. Nintendo absolutely needs a new console out as soon as possible, and it needs to be a success.

What Ninty needs now is not a succesful console, but customer loyalty wich they are somewhat regaining this gen. That's all they have, left no gimicks will reseruct them now, if they release a new handheld they will lose a ton of customer loyalty.

Why?

I'm saying the handheld will release in more than a year, maybe even 1.5 years. 3DS sales will be down to 60-70k at most per week by then. They can't live on that forever and another 60k from WiiU.
