Forums - Gaming - What would you do if Sony....

Well, it would be a sad day for gaming indeed. I'd move on to PC...

this will never happen, sony will not do it. if they drop out of the console markted its because they file for bankruptcy

Playstation probably won't die even if Sony files for bankruptcy since they'll probably sell the division to someone else.

There wouldn't be too many options available to buy the division, namely 3. Amazon, Apple or MS

lol you really think Sony would sell to an American (foreign) company?

lol you really think that where money is speaking Sony would care about selling to an american company? Please get over with that "foreign" crap. This is last century thinking.

I would save some money. No need to get the PS4 in 2015 or the boatload of exclusives coming next year...

It is near the end of the end....

dude dont be an idiot. Japan has very strict rules when it comes to foreign entities BUYING or OWNING companies and zaibatsus in Japan. This isnt about some xenophobeic shit (at least not from me). The point of the matter is that if Sony were to sell today, the offer will very much most likenly go to a fellow Japanese company like Casio or Sharp or something before any foreign company is thought of. Also, It would most likenly not be any of the comanies you name because Sony's main sector is household electronics and none of the companies you mentioned have anything to do with this. This clause is covered in these laws in Japan. There is very specific way by which Japanese companies can be acquired by foreign entities but It would ended up with the company not FULLY merging with said foreign comany. There is also the case of Sony's aged moral importance; That is in Japan, it would be far more easier to buy a much more younger and less significance company than a Mongul and well-aged homebase company like Sony who is easily Japan's most prominent electronic company. I can say with relative ease that the Japanese goverment will do everything to make sure a comany like Sony remains Japanese rather than selling to some foreign entity (Yeah, the Japanese are samurai like that).

I am neither your "dude" nor an idiot. And we are not talking about buying Sony as a whole but the gaming part of it - that's the topic of this thread.

So you say japanese are so "against west" that they even would sell it cheaper to a japanese company than to a foreign company? A company where you can buy stock off in a globalized market? Well, if this is true, consider me surprised at least.

You should do that regardless.  As for me, I'd build a gaming rig and future-proof it as much as possible.  I'll still do that eventually, just this hypothetical would expedite the process.

me and steam would be a lot closer.

Dude, I dont care what you think or what the Japanese believe it should be...It is what it is according to the Japanese Diet. You can look it up if you want. Japanese have been known to have issues with foreigners and foreign influence, this isnt new. If you marry a Japanese woman in Japan, YOU have to take on her name, not the other way around Japan is weird like that. Not saying it is impossible to buy a Japanese company BUT for a big well-aged mega company like Sony to go foreign will be very very much harder than any new age company. It wouldnt even be really owned by said company. it isnt about being on the gobal market. The Japanese love to keep what is Japanese, Japanese especially if it is the best of what they have. That how they do things, I really dont care and I think it is stupid and backward. But I would expect that with time, they might become more and more liberal with this ideas.
