Or 1st or 2nd party exclusive.
The difference here is Sony wanted the IP in exchange for their paper.

That said, don't take this to mean Insomniac will only be making games for the Xbox platform from here on out. The studio his has a great relationship with Sony and has every intention of remaining independent. "We’re still an independent developer," Price added. "Why do I mention that? First, a lot of people assume that we’re part of some larger organization; that’s never been the case. Second, one of the benefits of operating as an independent studio and creating and owning one’s IP is that you can develop for the platforms that make the most sense for the game." |
yea i call BS on that reason, they have already said its cause MS is allowing them to keep the rights to the game while publishing it, Sony kept the rights to every game they made. I also think it could have been MS demographic for the X1 is way younger and people expect shooters and stuff when you go to a xbox. Just my theory hell im probably wrong but just my thinking. in my time with the X1 and the ps4 im experiencing the same thing i did wiht the 360 and ps3, kids on the xbox more adults on the playstation in the multiplayer games.
I'm a PS4 owner, and I understant that Studios make deals with "the other" company from time to time, it may not seem obvious now, but franchises like Mega Man, Castlevania, and especially Final Fantasy used to be very associated with Nintendo... Some are upset at Bungie because they now make multi-platform titles (honestly yay).
Now, I wish Sunset Overdrive was on PS4 as well as XB1, the theme looks interesting and the action very dynamic... however the reactions from those who played it at E3 were lukewarm at best, apparently it's repetitive... so fortunately I may not be missing much in this case.
Open world games typically are repetitive.

Yeah darn that Ted Price! What does he know about making games? Surely not as much as "certain people" in this thread. |
Ah.. Can't lie. His studio hasn't made a decent game since 2009. They used to be my favorite developer, but now I could care less if they get bought out by MS entirely. They've lost their touch.
Since 2009:
4 sequels for Sony
2 games for EA
This seems to be the first time they are able to work on their own IP outside of publisher control since Disruptor, which happens to be my favorite Insomniac game. I know Fuse is their IP, but it's obvious EA tainted it when you look at Fuse vs Overstrike.
Maybe they didn't want another Fuse situation with Sony.
Why it's exclusive: they needed a publisher to fund the game and do all the market while keeping the right to the IP themselves, and Microsoft was the only one ok with this, but only if it would be XB1 exclusive.
Funny how some people believe that MS threw money at them to keep it off Playstation lol. Microsoft wasn't Imsomniac's first choice they pitched the game to other publishers and some said no or they couldn't come to an agreement, also Sony would have never let them keep the IP.
