Forums - Gaming - Does TLOU finally give the definitive reason for buying s PS4 over a Xbox One?

spurgeonryan said:

Sure there are other games for PS4, but lets be honest, it was the hype and power of the system that drew gamers to the PS4 over the X1.

The games really were not that big of deal as of yet. There were some cool multi system games and a few exclusives, but not much more going on than the X1 multi plates and exclusives to make it stand out.

But now, the most talked about game of this year and last year is out.

Is this the real tipping point for the PS4?

Silly Thread.

Both PS4 and XBone have a good line up considering that they were released just 8 months and half ago.  Many other great games will come between Sept and Q1 2015; the only problem of XOne is that it came after the beautiful 360, and people were expecting soooo much more from the new Console. On the other hand, Sony did all great with PS4, delivering a better hardware than MS, more powerful, cheaper package, better multiplatform games, their strong 1st party Studios.  Playstation is now even more popular than before, while 'XBox Name' / value became weaker.  It's not The Last of Us only, it's the whole package, the popularity, the games that will be available in the near future, the better multiplatform games and stronger 1st party studios which makes PS4 the most wanted console.

Errr, not really. The game should be played by all PlayStation in my opinion, but it's not a definitive reason to pick one over the other.

Many of you won't believe this but TLOU:R is a huge system seller for people who wanted to play this game but did not own a PS3. Many people focus on one console per system and for a lot of people, this was an Xbox 360 (especially in the US). It is these people that did not have a PS3 that this appeals to most, as well as the people who stopped buying PS3 games as they started once again to focus on buying solely for the PS4. And come on this is the best people to target, not many people who owned a PS3 would suddenly swap to an Xbox One.

Please don't start with the "I buy for 2-3 consoles". You're on a gaming forum, I'm pretty sure you guys are more dedicated than the average gamer.

I think many people bought the PS4 not because they wanted to play TLOU RE but because of the mere existence of TLOU on PS3.

Well I bought a PS4 for the TLOUR even before I knew they would make the remaster for it... How luck am I?

i like the "just for the hype" sentence.

Not even close.

The number of PS4s that were sold due to the release or even announcement of TLoU Remastered is negligible at best.

Don't get me wrong; it's one of the best examples of video games out there, but given that it is on the PS3, which can be bought for around $200 with an 8 year catalog of games and that the Remaster will sell maybe 1m units total optimistically, there just won't be enough consumers "on the fence" who pick up a $400 PS4 instead of a $400 XBO for the Remaster alone to make any sort of significant difference.

It's a bonus at best for PS4 owners.

The tipping point for the PS4 was November 15 2013!

Seriously, this is shaping up to be one of the year where I tried and completed the most games, all the wile some keep telling me, 95% of my gaming time is on the PS4 since I got it (yes, I sold my PS3 and used my PC mostly for work since then).

I hope more remakes are coming, obviously, I would be sad if they were the only games available on any given console... but I am not worried about PS4's future in that regard.... The Uncharted series is a given, I would hope for Wipeout HD (or a new Wipeout) and the God of War games with similar treatment for God of War 2 as Halo2 got in the MCC thing the xb1 is getting! I could not care less for the David Cage games...

So far yes, I am happy with the games as well as the performance level of the machine, feature wise I could see why some would complain, but it does not affect me in my current use pattern.

, No, -___-

Well, I already have a ps4, but if I didnt it would be a solid no. Definitely not worth buying a ps4 for! The game is amazing, no doubt, but I played it a year ago on the ps3... No late port or re release is ever going to be a reason to buy a new console, at least for me (with the exception of shining force 3!)
