I do number why Atari went from numbers to cats! That always seemed weird to me!

I actually like its cat names better than the numbers.  That's something that seems to hold for me across the board.  There's something about putting random numbers in a name that just seems uncreative to me.  Any fool can stick a "2000" or "7800" after a name but coming up with something that sounds cool in its own right is not so easy.  Maybe that's why I prefer Atari's cat names to it's number system.  "Jaguar" and especially "Lynx" (+1 for the use of an 'X' ) are awesome names.  I'd love to see a system called the "Atari Puma" - That would be sweet!

Speaking of cat names, where the hell is Jizz_Beard with our innuendo regarding the name "Cougar Boy"?

"Jizz_Beard to console names thread please!  Your skills really are needed here.  Situation is getting urgent!"

I do prefer the cat names over the numbers, but I simply wonder how they decided to suddenly start using cat names! I guess this is the million dollar question..

Bah!  You're a baby!

The thing about names like "Vectrex" - and probably one of the reasons I like them - is that they sound cool while also having a kind of retro vibe to them.  I mean, "Vectrex" just sounds like something from the 80s.  You know, the era when home computers were a new thing and they tried to name stuff to sound alien and futuristic.

haha, I'm not that much of a baby :P

But I'm totally with ya! :D

Well... compared to me.

If you want to know my thoughts on this, we actually talked about it recently.  Among other topics, we discussed how this site is full of "kids", and I presented a four-stage "hypothesis" of middle age that you may be interested in.  I call it "The Four 'R's" ...

I... don't know.  Open a dictionary and throw darts?  It's a good question, and certainly one that I wonder when I come across some platforms.  I mean, who the hell came up with the "Funtech Super A'Can"?  And more to the point, how did they come up with it?  That's what I'd really like to know!
