yeah, because nobody but the hardcore people heard about the terrible x1 reveal because they don't visit gaming websites? ...or not.
The people that aren't hardcore gamers aren't generally buying a video game system in its first year. Not enough time has passed to validate this.
They could have kept it as a closed beta if they weren't sure about pricing, but they decided to open it up to everybody. That means that they don't plan to make too many changes to the the service, not matter what they say. They could and probably will add a subscription model in the future because I don't think there will be much money coming in with this pricing structure.
True they could've. I am sure they have data that suggested they should do it openly.
Much like playstation home, they are just launching it to the public and using the term "beta" to hide behind its shortcomings. It is the exact same tactic. My point is they should have just waited until they had the right approach before they opened it up to everybody. Because just like playstation home, I think playstation now is going to get so much bad press that it is going to be sunk before it can take off.
It might. It also might get worked out in this open beta to a good solid price point, with a potential subscription service, and take off. Time will tell there. I know I will use the service sparingly myself, but I like the idea behind it. Especially if they start adding PS1 and PS2 games down the road.

yeah, I like the idea behind the system as well, but this initial process is frustrating and obviously not worth it. At least not to me and I believe most people. Thats why I am saying that it would be better to wait until the service is actually in a place that it could make a positive first impression instead of the negative one it is mostly getting now. It is killing a lot of peoples interest in the service.
Personally, I think the best approach would be to come out with a subscription service. I think that is what the beta should have been about, not individual rentals. They should have been toying around with subscription prices to figure out what was viable. different pricing tiers, unlimited access vs limited access, stuff like that. They could even add another tier to playstation plus that would include ps now streaming.
