You need some Bakemonogatari in your life.

I'll check it out, Parasyte is so, so good though. It's got me sorted for a while. My biggest problem is finding ways to view these shows, it's much harder than it was the last time I left the safety of Netflix.

I have neither a Netflix or Crunchyroll account and I can still watch everything I want. Depends on what you need.

Anyone else seen Happy Sugar Life? I'm still trying to finish it. It's very unsettling, but not necessarily in a bad way. The interesting thing is that it doesn't really have a protagonist. The only thing close to a protagonist is a psychopathic murderer who is made appealing by mostly shitting on bad people. Every character is somehow mentally damaged due to trauma or psychosis. I have absolutely no idea how they will end this show since there isn't really any hope for a happy ending. While it's not necessarily fun to watch damaged people trying to cope it's a really interesting piece narrative wise.

Shine on, Aru.

Such a wonderful character.  She's that friend everyone had in high school who you kind of avoided in social situations because they would do or say something embarrassing at the worst possible moment.  In my case, I had a friend who would suddenly start talking about professional wrestling in front of girls.  That, and he'd constantly quote South Park.  Ugh.

Also, there are some interesting differences with the manga.  First, the character designs in the anime seem to be more realistic, which makes the characters look older.  I don't have a problem with that but I do think it made Aru's elementary school faux pas look a bit ... weird.

Second, the anime is more active than the manga.  The manga has a slower pace, with a lot of Bocchi agonizing over her failures and being cute in general.  Kind of interesting to see them take this direction.

Lastly, I think it's worth adding that in the fan translated version of the manga, Nako always calls Aru "loser," which is why all the memes say that.  From what I can gather, the real meaning of what she calls Aru is somewhere between that and "unfortunate."  It's like more of an insult but not as harsh as "loser."  That's just what I've gleaned from conversations between people who might or might not know what they're talking about, though.

I finally convinced my gf to watch Jojo with me. We are currently finishing up Gurren Lagann, and will move on to Blue Exorcist.

I don't know how to trim posts anymore so I'm leaving my old post up there, gomen gomen.

Aru is really amusing to me, she might be favorite girl despite being part of the non-blonde half of the cast. Love how she keeps making dumb mistakes and tries to play them off like she's not making dumb mistakes. I was laughing out loud when she was pretending the hanger in her shirt was a fashion statement.

The manga differences are interesting, is this a 4-koma originally or a normal weekly manga? I guess I have a tough time telling age differences in anime anyway. I forgot the characters were in middle school because I feel like I see high school characters with similar designs in other anime. The ninja girl looks about as developed as Karen in Kinmoza.

From what little Japanese I took for work, I thought "zannen desu ne" was like "oh that's a shame", and so I assumed they were reflecting that same feeling about her bad luck. Loser seems kinda mean, but if its intended to be an light insult it seems more fitting. I always dislike when manga translators use ill-fitting words though. I remember Mangastream would always throw in random curse words when a character was expressing any mild frustration. I don't think I've seen so many random f-bombs as I did from that talking pig in Seven Deadly Sins.

"Unfortunate" is probably the closest translation but it definitely has a more involved meaning in Japan. It has a generally negative connotation and usually indicates disappointment, which is a very bad thing in Japan, see apology culture in Japan. While in the west it would have a more empathetic meaning as in "poor girl" in Japan it indicates that someone is so unfortunate that they might be cursed. In Aru's case it might as well be very close to the expression "dame ningen", which is a very harsh insult and means a person who can't do anything right and is a drag on society. From her reaction "zannen" probably means something like that to her.

I finally watched Kimetsu no Yaiba. I did not expect it to be THAT shounen, but I guess it's fine. It has quite dark themes, so it might be a better fit for a straight seinen. All of the shounen shenanigans rob it quite a bit of its impact that it should have. It's fun to watch either way.

Kimetsu no Yaiba almost lost me with the standard shounen training episode (and the lack of cute demon sister interactions).  That didn't last forever like some other anime/manga, though, and it go back on track quickly.

Trim posts with Delete Table.  At least, that's what I do.

Yeah, Bocchi is a 4-koma.  They're middle school students so, yeah, I think they look a bit too much like high school students in the anime.  I think the manga designs are a better fit.

Poor little Bocchi ...

With the four main characters accounted for, I expect the focus to shift back to Bocchi's quest to make friends with the supporting characters, many of whom have been shown already in the background.  Sleeping-mask-on-her-head-girl is one of my favorites.

Soloist of the Prison is really good.  It's about a girl looking for her little brother in a vast and lawless prison city.  It's also damn sad at times.  The art is excellent.
