I tried reading Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san but I just didn't like the girl. She seemed mean.
The manga-to-anime I'm looking forward to is Yuri Camp.

Yeah, that's fair. It was cute to read early on, but sometimes I can't help but to feel bad for the guy. It's just him getting teased in the story.

It was a short, cute romance story with a nice cast and nice end overall. Mori and Sakurai were fun characters, especially Morimori-chan when she gets flustered xD I wish there was more to the anime. I liked some of the side characters and learning more about them would have been nice, but the story was about Mori and Sakurai, so there was no need. It's more of a 'I wanted more, but what I got was great!' If only the original manga got translations like how ReLIFE is currently. I need to know what happens next! ;_; |
That ending was so wholesome I think I have diabeetus now.
It was a cute show overall, and I liked the main character, Sakurai, and my spirit animal Kowai-san. There interactions were adorable, just a bunch of absolute dorks. I do feel like the support cast was kind of underutilized...after a certain point it seemed like most of the side characters just fell of the map. I still can't remember who the side ponytail girl in the ED is.
I wouldn't say no to another season, but not sure where it would go really. Maybe focus on the other characters while the main two are dating?

Eh...I mean, she's obviously doing it because she likes him, and half the time he's initiating the challenge anyway. I dunno, seems like typical middle schooler shenanigans rather than anything done out of actual malice or cruelty.
Also based on the outcome of the spinoff, he didn't seem to mind all that much. :P

I dunno if they ever mentioned or showed who side ponytail girl was. I was certain they would at least before the anime ended. Sadness... I'm fine with the anime ending here though, I think this is a story well wrapped up overall (except whether Mori ever got employed again or decided to continue to be an elite neet B^) ? )
And yeah, it's simple teasing, but considering even after they're together later on and he's being still being teased, I can't help feel a lil bad for him.

Apparently Houseki no Kuni has decided to clasp AOTY and won't let it go...... ever. Fuck off, Made in Abyss. There is a new sheriff in town.
It's the best anime that anime'd this year. And it's fucking CG.

Holy crap! We have a poll now! Thanks Trucks! *waves to the shadows*
Anyways, the question is something I asked last season, Most Underrated Anime of the season, but this time I'm limiting it to the lowest scoring anime with over 10,000 followers on MAL. Did I do it that way last time? Eh I can't remember.
Those results though...seems kind of surprising to me considering it just opened up, and usually only like 10 people vote. I wonder if the results didn't reset. Hm...well whatever, I'll leave this up for a week before switching.
Anyways, next poll will be AOTY poll...but to make things interesting, I wanna switch it up slightly. Instead of just taking the highest rated anime on MAL, I'd like anyone interested to nominate an anime they personally would give AOTY, or just think deserves to be in the poll. If I can get 9 nominees, I'll use those, if not, I'll just use MAL choices.
EDIT: Made it clear that I'm looking for AOTY nominees.

You know it's funny, since I actually meant AOTS when I posted that, but now that I think about it, AOTY works even better. Just means there's a much bigger pool of candidates to choose from, but that just makes the nominee idea work better.
I'll add Gintama for now, but if not enough people submit nominees, I'll add LWA too. Assuming no one else nominates it.

I ... don't remember voting in that poll but it says I did. Interesting.
Anyway, if I had to list my very favorite anime for the year, it would probably look something like this (no order):
Gabriel DropOut
Kemono Friends
Made in Abyss
Aho Girl
Mahoujin Guruguru
Tsurezure Children
Houseki no Kuni
Net-juu no Susume
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
Demi-chan wa Kataritai
That's leaving off some that I liked quite a bit but I don't think were as high quality, unique, and/or as meaningful.
If I had to list the anime that I thought were simply the best of the best, it would fall between Houseki no Kuni and Made in Abyss. I think those two had something special that set them apart. By the way, the manga for both is fantastic.
I don't really see the need to single out just one of them. However, for the sake of the nomination thing, I'll go with Made in Abyss (I know Houseki no Kuni will be nominated by someone else).
Co-AotY -- Made in Abyss / Houseki no Kuni
Songs of the Year (non ED/OP) --
Characters of the Year:

Best Voice work --
Inori Minase - Chito in Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou
Tomoyo Kurosawa - Phos in Houseki no Kuni
Aoi Yūki - Yoshiko in Aho-Girl
Special Award For Being Awesome -- Kemono Friends: A low-budget tie-in for a dead mobile game that was supposed to fade away quietly but instead went on to take Japan by storm. Despite being made by a tiny production team, it had more heart and individuality than almost anything else. It was unique, had fantastic voice direction, inventive character designs and, above all, was just a lot of fun to watch.

I already know my AOTY. Was a pretty good year. Lots of 10s and 9s.
