Dammit Fun, that's a touchy subject to talk about :p  from the communities I've checked it seems the general feeling is ... it sucks. I think this was sent out of the gate to fail with the the aweful CGI. But IMO the reactions are a knee jerk reaction to that (look at Myamimelist, Bananya Cat is rated higher.... a cat in a banana that dreams of becoming a chocolate covered Banana is rated higher....says alot)

There's no denying tho, when you have source material as well, Legendary as Beserk.. however you go about adapting it, it should be treated with respect. Something that this 2016 version lacks.

I was going to watch the Berserk movie trilogy once but only got 10 minutes into the first movie and couldn't go any further. WHO THE FUCK APPROVED CGI!?

The CGI in the movies improves as you go and is used a bit more sparingly after the first movie. They treated the brutal finale to the Golden Age arc well with their animation approach.

Sorry I'm a little late, but yeah big berserk fan here and I saw Berserk (2016). Where to begin...first of all I wasn't a big fan of how they changed the animation to cgi. The problem with this is that the source material(manga) has amazingly detailed art that brings it to life whenver you read it and with cgi everything just looks so dead to me. I find this very disrespectful to all the hard work Miura and his assisstants put into the art, instead of using that art as reference and imitate it through hand drawn animation, they went went the easy route with cgi.

Secondly, they skipped a lot of stuff, 2 arcs to be precise, the Blackswordsman and Lost kids arcs and are skipping right into the Retribution Arc.  Those 2 arcs may not be necessary for the main plot of Berserk, but they show how Guts has developed as a character after "that night" and a much darker side to him after he lost everything. Also, they have some of the best Berserk moments in there and it would truly be a shame to not see them being animated. They also skipped how Guts got his new sword, the Dragonslayer(the one in ep.1 of 2016), what happened to Casca after "that night", how they escaped "that night" and who helped them. None of this things seem to be getting animated, since all of that is before the arc they are animating now.

Finally, my verdict. I didn't enjoy it for the reasons I posted above. Maybe if I didn't read the manga I would've enjoyed it more. I'm still gonna watch it because it's Berserk and it's finally animated, but it deserves much more than what it got. Personally, I recommend that you read the manga because it is truly a masterpiece and you should do it from the beginning, since the first season also left out some stuff. Be warned though, the manga is uncensored, so if you can't handle certain scenes in the anime, I doubt you'll handle them in the manga.

Things I did enjoy from the anime were the voices for Guts and Puck, I think they're pretty much perfect. The music has always been very good in the first season and it seems like this one will too. The OP is so far my favorite of the season, truly captures Berserk well, having "that scene" in it might have been going overboard a little, but it is arguably the most important scene in Berserk, so I'm okay with it.

Ok you guys managed to free your pal Versus of the hook. Anime Megathread better than expected confirmed. About Berserk, it seems the CGI decision might have come in hopes of making it more mainstream. I don't mind CGI if the story is there. As good as the animation on the original was, the reason why i liked Berserk is because it was one of those anime that hooked me like crack.

The cgi in the movies does get better after the first movie....but yeah you're better off reading the manga as it is much more detailed and overall better in every way.

Ok, I'll take the bait. So... um... I loved these last few seasons of Star Wars Rebels. Oh wait, I bet that doesn't count. So.... um... anyone liking the new Berserk?

I liked the older berserk anime a lot more. Shadow made some really good points about it that I agree with. I think the "New game" anime is better which is about a girl who starts to work at a video game company full of women making a game called Fairies Story 3. There's no action or fighting or fanservice. Just a bunch of girls talking.

Yep and it's better than berserk. I had high expectations for berserk to be honest. What genres of anime do you like?

hmm how about favorite genres?

It looks like an okay season. There are a few things that look pretty good but so far Sweetness and Lightning is the only thing that hit A-tier in the first episode.
