Sorry I'm a little late, but yeah big berserk fan here and I saw Berserk (2016). Where to begin...first of all I wasn't a big fan of how they changed the animation to cgi. The problem with this is that the source material(manga) has amazingly detailed art that brings it to life whenver you read it and with cgi everything just looks so dead to me. I find this very disrespectful to all the hard work Miura and his assisstants put into the art, instead of using that art as reference and imitate it through hand drawn animation, they went went the easy route with cgi.
Secondly, they skipped a lot of stuff, 2 arcs to be precise, the Blackswordsman and Lost kids arcs and are skipping right into the Retribution Arc. Those 2 arcs may not be necessary for the main plot of Berserk, but they show how Guts has developed as a character after "that night" and a much darker side to him after he lost everything. Also, they have some of the best Berserk moments in there and it would truly be a shame to not see them being animated. They also skipped how Guts got his new sword, the Dragonslayer(the one in ep.1 of 2016), what happened to Casca after "that night", how they escaped "that night" and who helped them. None of this things seem to be getting animated, since all of that is before the arc they are animating now.
Finally, my verdict. I didn't enjoy it for the reasons I posted above. Maybe if I didn't read the manga I would've enjoyed it more. I'm still gonna watch it because it's Berserk and it's finally animated, but it deserves much more than what it got. Personally, I recommend that you read the manga because it is truly a masterpiece and you should do it from the beginning, since the first season also left out some stuff. Be warned though, the manga is uncensored, so if you can't handle certain scenes in the anime, I doubt you'll handle them in the manga.
Things I did enjoy from the anime were the voices for Guts and Puck, I think they're pretty much perfect. The music has always been very good in the first season and it seems like this one will too. The OP is so far my favorite of the season, truly captures Berserk well, having "that scene" in it might have been going overboard a little, but it is arguably the most important scene in Berserk, so I'm okay with it.
