Also, I'm a little curious what the most disappointing anime of the season was for everyone. Not the worst you watched, but the one that you either had expectations for that weren't met, or the show just let you down halfway through the season and never really recovered.

For me, Boku no Hero Academia was by far the most disappointing. Stupid things were hyping it as the next great, action shounen anime. Action as good as the best of them, a story that wouldn't suck. I had forgotten how good the hype machine is at lying. To be blunt, Academia sucks.

The bulk of the show is spent on one of the most stereotypical, whiny protagonists a show has seen in some time and his relationship with his bully lover Kacchan. There are too many characters for the show to adequately focus on in 12 episodes, and because of that, the entire show felt way too unfocused. It was all over the place trying to introduce characters, explain powers, and give some action time to everybody. I get they wanted to build the cast, but when you only have 12 episodes, maybe some sacrifices should be made to create a focused story.

Literally the only good part has been the last couple of episodes, and even then, they've been so stereotypical for the genre, I have a hard time thinking they made the show standout in any noteworthy way. "If 100% isn't enough, I'll just go OVER 100% HUE HUE HUE"

Being overhyped and then not even that good as an average anime made Boku no Hero Academia a serious disappointment for me.

For me it the most disappointing anime was Big Order ...

You have no idea how high my expectations were since the original writer of the series was the author of Future Diary and the material in it was excellent ...

I am at a loss for words to describe this piece of crap. I'm not sure how such a good mangaka betrayed my expectations but after that trainwreck I have a lowered opinion of Sakae Esuno more than ever before ...

Hundred was not even close to being the worst of the bunch this season, that goes to Big Order by far ...

It's an actual contender for worst anime of the year if not then at least the top 5 worst of this year ...

"Miss Trigger" is a fun character, and with that name, she is basically the Trigger mascot now.

Now?

No. She's been there.

Since the very beginning.

Mayoiga

I was expecting a legit good mystery/supernatural show, I got a "so bad, and it knows it's bad, that it's good"

Just look at MAL's recommendations for "Mayoiga viewers", everything is way better than it http://myanimelist.net/anime/32438/Mayoiga/userrecs

It's funny, since although Assassination Classroom is also my anime of the season, I feel like I wouldn't have as high of an opinion on it if it was originally a single-season anime. It had its moments, but it didn't hit its stride until 2nd season IMO.

I've said it before, but my biggest worry with Hero Academia was that it wouldn't be renewed, since this season is almost entirely setup. Leaving it at 13 episodes is essentially like watching a big advertisement for the manga (well, ignoring that's what most adaptations are anyway). Fortunately, it's already been confirmed to be getting a second season (or confirmed to be confirmed I guess), so I imagine the intention is for this to become a long-running series. I suppose we can only make opinions on what's been released so far, but I try to look at these types of shows with a different lens than something that's self-contained.

Personally, I enjoyed it though. It definitely follows a pattern laid out by other long-running shounen franchises, largely Naruto, but it feels unique enough that I want to see more of it. My biggest annoyance was the exaggerated boy rivalry..but I see it so often with these type of anime that I don't really bat an eye anymore. Surpisingly, I hate the rival character far less than I did in Naruto, even if his personality is much more severe.

I started reading the manga, so the second season probably won't have the same impact, but it seems like something I can see myself enjoying long-term.

The Boku no Hero Academia finale was basically:
"Play of the Game: McCree - 'It's High Noon'"

That aside, it said the second season was "coming soon", so I'm guessing they plan on bringing it back in the Fall.

Right guy's i though I'd come ask you since there's so many Anime's out there it's pretty hard to differentiate between the mediocre and the good ones. So far I have watched

One Piece
Attack on Titans (may not be up to date)
Death Note
Monster
FMA and Brotherhood
Naruto
Bleach
Hajime no Ippo
Hunter x Hunter (is there any new episodes?)

I stopped watching Anime's a few years ago, so i've been out of the loop for about 2-3 years now, are there any new anime's which are worth watching bare in mind i have a certain type (like the anime's listed above). Does anyone have any recommendations also is one punch man any good?

You've watched some pretty good ones there...

There hasn't been any new Hunter x Hunter episodes since it stopped a couple years back, so if you watched until there then there's nothing new. As for One Punch Man, yeah it's good. It's a parody rather than a serious anime but it's definitely worth a watch and should give you a few laughs.

Apart from that I'd highly recommend Shinsekai yori. Takes a few episodes to get going but once it does it gets really good!

Yeah i've caught up with Hunter x Hunter in that case, ended on a wierd cliffhanger didnt it? And i'll probably check it out also to add to the list i've watched Steins gate, and that video game one where they put on VR and get trapped forgot what its called.

Out of curiosity, did you watch the recent 2011 Hunter x Hunter anime, or the older one? I'm only asking because the anime got a reboot a few years ago, and I'd say it's worth watching if you only watched the original.

If you're not sure which one it was, the new anime covered the Chimera Ant arc, while the older ended with Greed Island.

Looking at your list, I'd say to give Fairy Tail, Blue Exorcist, Magi, and Boku no Hero Academia a try, to see if they're your jam.

Was the recent one and yeah ended with the chimera arc (epicness) and oh yeah I tried fairy tale but didn't like it, might give it another go, and i'll try the rest too. Are there any new thought provoking ones like deathnote or steinsgate?
