Forums - Movies & TV - Super Official Anime Discussion Thread

I remember awhile back everyone was talking about how some high-school boys in anime seem to run away from girls. Well, I'm reading a manga series now that kind of exemplifies that. (There is a short 3 part ova series for it, so it counts here, shut up.)

It's Nozo x Kimi (Nozomi x Kimio). The main character is a boy that gets trapped, by accident, in a locker in the girl's dressing room. Nozomi, an aloof yet pretty girl with no friends, finds him but doesn't tell on him. Instead, she blackmails him.

That's pretty bad, isn't it? I mean, blackmail is never right, that's true.

But the thing she blackmails him into? As they live directly across from one another, she makes him open his curtain every night and watch her pose in her underwear (or less). Yes, that's right, every night he is required to watch the prettiest girl in the class parade around half naked.

His reaction? He spends the rest of the time complaining and cursing his fate. That poor bastard.

Now, I understand some of that from a storytelling perspective, and the manga itself is pretty good, but watching a guy in high school yelling at a girl for exposing herself to him is really, really odd.

Dude, that's totaly understandable. Naked girls are like seriously scary!

It's worse than you think!  Sometimes she drags other girls into the picture.  It must be a nightmare for him.

I'm not familiar with MAL rankings, but if I had to guess what the highest aggregrate score will be, I'd guess either Jojo, D. Gray Man, or Berserk based on the same reasoning Shadow gave.

People who didn't like the beginning of these anime are less likely to come back and watch/rate them again, and the ones that do like them will rate them highly because they're so hyped up. Not a slight against any of these anime, but I think long-running anime will tend to score more highly for this reason, while new anime will have to try harder to prove themselves.

Still, Versy needs a solid answer, so I'm going to guess Berserk with a 9.08.

Also, thoughts on my Jump shows.

Assasination Classroom: That was really great, even if it was a bit of an asspull. I liked the contrast drawn with Koro-sensei's first student and the E class. The episode was incredibly emotional, for sure.

I'm not a big of fan of fake-killing off Kayano (not that I actually wanted her to die), but it was another fine parallel to his backstory. In a way, he redeemed his failure to save Aguri with his actions in the present, and it certainly falls in line with the ridiculous over-preparation that Koro-sensei is known for.

Overall, I was a bit dissapointed that creepy scientist and the new Shinigami took over as the main antagonists of the show, as I honestly felt Asano was a much better character rival for Koro-sensei. Unfortunately, his style of villainy doesn't make for a climactic ending, so I can see why the plot went this way. Still a fantastic anime overall, and I'm looking forward to seeing how everything concludes.

Hero Academia: Yeah it's cheesy as hell, but I really don't care, seeing All Might beat the living crap out of Nomu was incredible. I was shouting fuck words at my TV the whole time.

I think the creepy hand dude is one drawing my attention the most right now. He's just...such a weirdo. What's his deal? Why was he freaking out after losing a hand? What's his motivation? I suppose none of these questions will be answered for a while...but I'm still curious. That design too.

At this point, Hero Academia is probably the show I enjoyed most this season, though I'd say Assassination Classroom had the strongest individual episode due to Koro-sensei's backstory. The only reason Hero Academia pulled ahead was because I honestly don't really care about many characters that aren't a yellow octopus.

Kiznaiver and Bungo were both pretty good as well...but I doubt I'll remember much about either a year from now.

Shirobako was amazing. I wish I had watched this one sooner. Easily one of the best ones that had somehow slipped under my radar.

Anybody saying over 9 is insane... only 10 anime have over 9 on MAL. Use this as a reference, I'm probably undershooting zero and souma but they most likely are gonna be slightly outside of 9, but I don't think we'll see any over 9 anime.
