Forums - Gaming - This is for those who care about "Next Gen" console graphics

First off. This isn't true. I game with 2 7950's. Infamous second son is still possibly the best looking game that I've seen. They just did a great job programming. These graphics are far stronger than last gen, and anyone who denies that makes no sense. Also, look at the stats on the wiiU. The wiiU uses a downclocked graphics card that would have been considered mid range 4 years ago. Also, the video posted is clearly the most PC master race thing I've ever seen. The 480 is an awful graphics card, and next gen consoles aren't 792p. A couple game on one of the consoles are 792p.

And yes, there is nothing to base it on, but there is nothing to base on it actually being that good looking either. Without any gameplay footage, no one can truly say one way or another how good it will look.

Which is why it's pointless to keep debating, outside of visual appeal (we can debate that). Can't discuss facts without.....facts. All we can discuss it how it looks, because that's all we got from the trailer.

And, again with Skyrim, I didn't say it isn't impressive. I said it's not as impressive as it once was.

And I agree with you that it isn't.

But yes, no point in debating now. We'll have to come back two or three years in for any real comparison, with more games released for each platform.

LOL at saying ps4 doesn;t have a 7850..it does....the system is in the wold and it's hardware is well known. 800 dollars? You are making a fool of yourself. A radeon 78 series is below 200.

Agree with you gravy 7850 is not highend

"So as we can see, PlayStation 4′s Pitcairn GPU is almost completely equivalent to the now obsolete HD 7850. The 7850 was priced at a price point of $200 and was an entry level GPU. "

Naughty Dog is so overrated! Yeah sure their games are great, but people tend to overrate their quality, especially graphic wise. I just started playing the 1st uncharted this weekend (yeah, i have the trilogy at home and never bothered to try it before). Although the game is good, it's nowhere near the expectations I had cuz of you sony fanboys overrating everything ND does. Graphically it's a bit of a letdown to be honest.

I agree. I dont know when but somehow ND achieved to be treated like gods.

Saying something against ND is like....well the whole internet is against you then.

Even if someone just doesnt like the games and the artstyle.

...soooo.....wheres my warning? ;)

Linus and Slick have been particularly harsh on consoles...so much so that Ive actually stopped watching their stream.

Every time consoles are spoken about its bashed to kingdom come. They literally have nothing positive to say about consoles at all...and when there is something positive they dont really give props but rather say it out of obligation.

I didn't use to mind this because gaming was never a focus of theirs back in the day, especially when linus was solo and was never into gaming that much.

But since the new consoles have released and has gotten a lot more attention, the topic of consoles vs. PC comes up a lot more. And i swear its like they go out of their way to bash consoles. Never ever expected this from Linus who always tried to be non bias when it came to these kinda topics back in the day...i guess they are just trying to appeal more to their fan base.

My comment wasnt really about the video but just about the hosts overall sentiment towards consoles which i think is quite important when watching this video, as i think its a bit skewed and doesn't take into account a lot of variables.

Do you notice what's missing from those screenshots? People. Anytime you look at something with animations in Skyrim, any immersion gained from the mods is completely gone. I know that you can get borderline better lighting, textures etc on PC, I know I can because I spent 3x the amount that I did on my PS4, but it's about the overall package and that includes art design and (very importantly for me) animations

If you're talking directly about Uncharted 4, compare the reveal trailers for U2, U3 and the Last of Us to the actual released games. There ain't much difference

But anyway, it's very simple. There were some very impressive games graphically on PS3 and 360, now we have 6-7 year newer technology, games are going to look a lot better.

So far, it's working. Shadowfall looks incredible and inFamous Second Son the same. Star Citizen probably looks slightly better, but it's about 2 1/2 years away from actual release. In terms of graphics, Drive Club is what I'm looking to blow me away this winter and AC Unity amazing too, even if it's borlerline better on PC (Ubi are crap at PC releases). Destiny has already been spoken about....

There are some amazing people mods as well, but like I said, Skyrim is almost three years old, not everything is perfect. The simple fact that people managed to make landscapes that are pretty much next-gen shows the prowess of PC.

And if you honestly expect Drake to look like that during actual gameplay sequences, I would be prepared to be disappointed. There is a big difference between rendering a cutscene and rendering gameplay.

And I never said that PS4/One look bad, they look great. It's just that PCs will easily and consistently outperform them in a year or two once games like Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, Star Citizen, GTA V mods, etc. come out. The difference between consoles and PC has never been greater in a generation, and I expect that to start showing once more next-gen PC development starts.

Mods aren't perfect. They're often a pain to install and often don't work. The ENB series for GTA has given me so much trouble I just gave up

We'll see. All I can say is that you have to look at what Naughty Dog has done in the past

They will probably, if you look very high end. As I said, i've spent 3x what I did on my PS4 with my PC {it's actually more than that, considering that I have a second monitor and even more than that since I share my PS4 with my brother} and I have a 670 based system. I won't be able to keep up 60fps Ultra for much longer and that's what's needed to beat PS4.

The real question is how many games are going to be designed to target a Titan Black and how many are going to to be designed for a PS4? I know with their "highly PC like" specs, they won't get quite as many benefits from optimisation, but they will keep up for a bit, it's just where the market is. Mods can only do so much

There is (at least) 1 clear exception, STAR CITIZEN. Now I've backed this game quite a lot and while a bit of me fears that my 670 won't be able to keep up for long, the other part of me wants to find £2,000 to spend on a 4K upgrade.... Now that would make a difference

You only get a warning if you've been naughty.

You've not been naughty.

Yet.....

The rEVOLution is not being televised

that all i have to say about that.

I also think equating the PS4 GPU to an HD7850 is not entirely accurate...it has higher bandwidth and 2 additional GCN cores.

On the flip side to that, the PS4 system also has a significantly weaker CPU than most gaming PC's.

The whole video is pretty mcuh bulls**t, in fact your post proves this because a 750 ti performs comparable to a hd7850(ps4 gpu) in benchmarks. And a 750 ti does not do 60 fps in Crysis 3 with the highest settings:

So shouldn't a PS4 without the overhead of a PC be able to get 60 FPS 1080p without issue?

As the above benchmarks shows it takes a GTX Titan or GTX 780 ti to do (slightly higher then) Full HD at 60 fps with full detail. A GTX 780 ti costs about $700 alone so pretty clear why PS4 isn't doing 60 fps. You can definitely gain with optimisation but not that much.

A PS4 isn't doing anywhere near the highest settings though. So it shouldn't have a problem right?
