Forums - Gaming - Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2) is one of the worst JRPG's I have ever played

I was really disappointed by the first Dark Cloud. It was really fun for awhile, but eventually it just felt like a mindless dungeon crawler to me after the fourth world, so I gave up on it.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I don't know my IQ because I've never had my head far enough up my ass to care.

Also, basically you are saying that anyone who doesn't agree with you is a noob? Did I say in my original post that if people didn't agree with me they are noobs?

You just proved that you and I have very different maturity levels.

@27 you should know better.

And if you really think that Dark Chronicle's building system is complex then I guess your IQ doesn't really give you much bragging rights, now does it?

No, I said everyone who posted in this topic was a n00b for judging a great game without playing the majority of it, not simply everyone who disagreed with me. The game is 200 hours long, it's not a JRPG, and you said the game was "terrible" which is a laugh, considering the amount of time you probably invested into playing it.

Get over yourself, imo.

Why did you leave his last statement out of his quote?  Hurt too much?

I'm so sick and tired of you and your IQ comment.  You need to get over yourself.

ZenfolderVGI, you should calm down. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
If the people posting in this thread don't like the Dark Cloud series, so be it. It is not hte kind of gameeveryone will enjoy.

I own both games and found them enjoyable. The points that ArtofAngels are valid complaints about the game. How much you let those point bother you is up to the individual.

Out of the four main issues he had with Dark Cloud 2, only the middle 2 bothered me, but I still enjoyed the game.

No, I think he must've edited that in because I removed nothing on purpose.

Your just mad because I call you out on your PS3 fanboy damage control everytime the weekly numbers are released.

I simply said, that everyone who has posted so far, was a "n00b" for flaming a game with groupthing that they knew little about, and probably bought under the preconcieved notion that it was a JRPG, which it's not really.

Then AoA, whom I won't flame unless he flames me first, came in with a "how old are you" which is what we call a "passive-agressive" insult, insinuating that I must be a child to call people "n00bs" for hating on a 200 hour game which they had never even played, but since they had played the previous incantation, or seen a roommate play the first couple of hours, assumed it must suck.

I then recanted from the passive-agressive flame with a much better one, which apparently made me look like I was arrogant, and pissed you, and AoA off. It's only a reply to an insult. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, and learn reading comprehension. Do you really want to keep going?

My problem isn't with his analysis, or him really. His post overall seemed passable, except for the fact that the topic title calls the game a JRPG:

...because JRPG doesn't just mean "any role playing game from Japan." JRPG is a term used to classify a genre of game that is heavily story and character driven, with battle sequences, character building, and boss fights as the main theme of the story.

As you well know, DC isn't story driven, nor does it tread the ground of familiar RPG's, as its much more similar to Zelda than Final Fantasy. The random dungeon crawling aspects of the game, along with the town building, and action oriented nature of the crafting systems make this a genre game much more about exploration than the standard RPG fair, and its the story in all its cartoonish glory, really takes a backseat to the rest of the game.

I assume you went in expecting a JRPG though, since you classified it as such, and when the story wasn't compelling enough to drive you on(because you have to do a ton of actual work to even advance to the small meaningless story scenes, you were finished with the game.

Let me suggest a much better JRPG, but a much worse adventure game, which is Tales of the Abyss.

...and his last sentance refers to the game as "terrible."

Other than that, the vast majority of the "n00b" in this post happens after he finished talking.

thread fails, Dark Cloud 2 was incredibly deep and offered over 100 hours of gameplay, one of the best dungeon crawlers of last-gen

You guys are like outsiders peeking at others greatness. FYI, the game is spectacular. Your problem is obvious, because a lot of n00bs have it. You didn't understand the complexities of the building system in the game, and weren't interested, so it turned you off. That's why I highly suggest strategy guides with this game, just like with Final Fantasy XII, to gain the most from your experience, and give you through one of the most complex and interesting games out for the PS2.

I'm happy we agreed: The crafing system bored me.

I'm never going to buy a strategy guide to figure out if a game is good or not. I had plenty of other games on the Gamecube + PS2 to play.

And...stop calling everyone who disagrees with you a n00b, thanks.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
