Forums - Gaming - How do you think Nintendo should use the Wii U gamepad

As a coaster.

Yes, yes and perhaps cross platform PS3, and Xbox 360 games.

i'd have said PS4 or Xbox One but that might be more of a pipe dream considering we all know Wii U is a generation behind.

Use it as a diseased limb to sever and offer the console at a more appropiate price.

Agree.

Just curious. How much have you guys played with it?

Enough to know that Wii U price isn't remotely worth it.

It isn't the GamePad intergration that makes it worth it, It's the games on the system.

I wouldn't call it a gen behind. It's more like half a gen behind in terms of hardware IMO.

Well, as of now. The gamepad seems like its used all of the things i have in mind. Probably some more games that incorporates the gyroscope Like Fatal Frame with snap pictures or use it to aim and such? Idk. Im already satisfied with it so far.

I love how the people that come in to hate on it can't leave a reason as to why they hate on it. It makes you look like troll, which most of them are, but at least try to contribute to a discussion.

E3 did do a good job of showing a variety of ways to use the gamepad that other systems can't really copy. Some ideas were really rough, like the giant robot and guard projects, but not one of them really looked bad or non-functional.

The asymmetrical game play I like the most because I could think of some crazy stuff for it. I'd love to see a survival horror multiplayer game, where four protagonists share a split screen and the fifth player is using the off screen functionality to be a stealthy monster, like a Xenomorph, hunting the players down.

I don't hate it. But I don't use it, for a few reasons. I don't like its large size, and It doesn't add to majority games. It would work on RTS games and the like. But Mario Kart, the system menu, and even Pikmin 3 are areas which show it isn't needed. A post before said the Gamepad was great with Pikmin, for the map. He's right. If you use the controller to play the game. I do not. I use the Nunchuck + Wii remote to play it. And turning my head all the time to bring up the map is extremely annoying. I have the controller behind me. I have no table or anything to put it on. I also have to put the controller down to interact. If I was able to move the map with the Wii remote, the game would be perfect.

It works great, if I have it in off TV mode. Because the map button is on the main screen. But the Wii remote pointer is faster than the joysticks. It's adding in steps instead of speeding it up. The Wii remote was the oposite. It sped gameplay up, without compromising any other aspect of gaming. The Remote wasn't perfect. The speaker was a total waste. I wish it was removed. So that buttons 1 and 2 where easier to hit.

MK8 only uses it as the map. So if you don't use it as the main controller, its a waste. And I like to see you look down at the screen while you're driving in MK8. The system menu. I don't need the decription text on my big screen. And the other control methods would be fine to reach something I need to change quickly. VS me activating the gamepad, going into options, doing what I need. Then closing options, then shutting the screen off. It works in other games that fully utilize the the screen, yes. But when it comes to a lot of other things, like for a quick check in Miiverse, and games like MK8, it's not needed.

The Miiverse community screen on the main menu is not even good. You can't choose what comunities you want there. And you can't even set where the screens default to. I have the gamepad disconnected. So it adds a extra step to reach the main menu. That's the problem. I honestly wish the controller was like the DS4. I just want to scroll and click faster. The screen wasn't really needed. When the screen is religated to being only the map. It's not offering anything good to the game.

The DS4 has its gimicks for the touch screen. Like igniting lara's torch in Tomb Raider. But the difference is, I don't have to take my eyes off my TV. And the controller isn't this large thing. I can't even play MK8 with the gamepad, because of the size. And I can't get use to it when other controllers are smaller and easier to handle. I end up just using the Pro controller and Wii Remote, depending on the game. Also, a personal note: Nintendo was stupid. They make this huge controller, and don't even make the entire back be used for a large battery. You could fit a battery twice the size of the larger battery between both hand grips.
