I recently bought Suikoden II. I played a lot of PS1 JRPG's, but shamefully must admit never to beat one. Played a most of FFVII and a bit of XenoGears/Chrono Cross, I'm really looking forward to having some spare time to beat these gems. Howver can you really say any of these are under-rated? Never heard a single bad thing about Suikoden and Chrono Cross (just that Trigger fans prefer tigger). P.S. YEs Chrono Trigger is my favorite JRPG, and I have yet to get into Cross (but from what I have played I loved it) |
Did you have to spend a fortune on Suikoden 2? Online prices for that game are pretty high.
I don't think Chrono Cross is that underrated but I see plenty people of degrading it for not being a proper sequel. Nothing is wrong with the Suikoden games either but I think they're pretty under exposed and the series was abandoned partly due to dissapointing sales.

Origins was amazing too! There was a huge plot twist that completely turned the first games story on its head. I've been so jaded by RPG plot twists, and even I didn't see it coming. |
Really? Was it a good twist? Generally JRPG twists are cliched, dumb, or are completely from left field that makes no sense. (No spoilers please)

Were those mandatory? I don't remember doing them. I remember having a looot of trouble with the last boss though. Could be why. I was litterally like, "Welp this my very last attack and if this doesn't magically kill him I'll have to start this 45+ minute battle all over again.... HOLY SHIT!" It was one of my finest moments. |
They were optional.
Also for the exact same reason, I love Golden Sun for GBA. 120,000 hp boss, defeated with a 120 dmg attack from 1 party member. No more mana, no more items, no more summons, just a final swing.

Oh yeah I wont spoil anything. There were two twists actually. One was so painfully obvious I couldn't help but roll my eyes during the cutscene, but the other one made brain ooze out of my head. If you ever get the chance to play it, put it on top of your priority list.

NICE!
Believe me when I get it I will play it right away, but even getting it on ebay is hard because postage from America kills the sale for me. One day though... one day. (I should have bought heaps of sealed copies about 5 years ago when everyone was selling them for dirt cheap with good postage).

Nice. Golden Sun is a pretty under rated series too. I didn't like the DS one much, but I hope they do more with the series.
Once I really get into a game story, optional quests just go right out the window. It's gotten me into a tough spot more than a few times.

Yup, I'm one of those turds selling retro games on Amazon here in Canada. Gamecube consoles are pretty worthless because almost every Wii can play them, but Gamecube games are a gold mine. Dollar signs light up in my eyes when I find a pile of them.
