ND could not even get their "high quality shadows" into a PS3 port on the console without dropping the frame rate back to 30.

Has that actually been confirmed then, with hard evidence?, because last i checked the same author/site making that claim had previously claimed the game had framerate drops into single-figure territorys too.

So I had just chalked up the whole thing to clickbait.

Naughty Dog Programmer and Coder, Corrinne Yu has officially confirmed that The Last of Us: Remastered when locked at 30 FPS enables higher quality shadow.

and to quote from what i just read

"More on shadows and GPU ms in general, not just TLOU.Extra shadow improvements arrive from fetching and blurring more samples which takes ms"

Seems more like a situation of 30fps allowing time for samples for the shadow rendering pipeline to pull more accurate results, not really "system doesnt have the power to do it at 60fps" and more "system doesnt have the time to do so many samples at 60fps but since we have 30fps option we may as well let it.

Porting a ps3 title has zilch to do with what natively optimized exclusives will be capable of.

When the dev themselves say in a interview that they were aiming for parity so the enjoyment is the same across all platforms why should we expect anything different? Or do we expect the 50% gpu advantage and faster memory to go completly useless? Common sense folks. If both versions go 1080p30fps and minute differences in the graphic would you think both systems are about equal or the dev didn't care about the extra resources? Second seems more likely unless you lack math skills.

First off. The developer was talking "GAMEPLAY" parity.  Not graphical parity. Bungie wants the SAME gameplay experience on X360/PS3/X1/PS4. To take this any other way.. is NOT "common sense". It's more pushing your own agenda. Having now played the beta on ALL the platforms. PS3 is the worst graphically by a long shot and the PS4 is the best. The PS4 only slighlty beats out the X1 an that is because it was alreadying running at 1080p while the X1 beta is 900p so the PS4 just looks a little sharper, which I only could tell by switching inputs at the same scenes and really studing them HARD. These differences would not be seen in regular gameplay. This cannot be said for the PS3 version, as it is noticeably "last gen". Looks like a game from 2009. The X360 version is closer to the X1/PS4 but still no where near as sharp and graphically intense. HOWEVER, the gameplay is at parity with ALL the consoles and it feels like the same exact game for each of them.

Second. If graphical "parity" were a thing. Why can Naughty Dog only do certain things on the PS4 version of The Last Of Us when you select to LOCK FPS at 30FPS? There is no X1 version to be "downgrading" things for. Naughty Dog is oftern considered onr of the best PlayStation developers and even they have issues getting things the way they want at 1080/60FPS this early in the console generation.  So.. again ...  where is this "common sense" you speak of?

Everyone has taken ID@Xbox's "parity" clause which had ONLY to do with release dates and NOTHING else (graphics). There is no "parity" release clause for NON-indie developers, let alone anything to do with "parity" when in comes to gameplay, graphics, etc.

If think you are mixing your info.... gameplay parity is something that is the common thing in multiplats... anyway regarding the PS3 being the worst version and X360 being closer to X1/PS4 (and both being pretty close) don't tell you basically that they had more familiarity with X360 than PS3 but didn't cared enough to push PS4? Or after 7 years in the 7th gen you think the gap between X360 to PS3 is greater than PS4 to X1 (even if we would consider X360>PS3 which we now isn't the case if we look for 1st parties).

Regarding the ID@Xbox I haven't said anything about it... and ND enhancing the shadows on 1080p30fps do you think having double the time to process the image would just give then enough for shadow? Possibly with their first attemp in gen 8 the game up to now is looking better than any other game in this gen so far, so your point is silly, or you haven't read about the other improvements?

they are expecting this to be huge, hence it's 100% obvious they have gone for parity. I disagree with parity between ps4 and xbox1

Its all speculations. And, of course, only PS4 fans tend to use the parity thing.

Of course, now its bungies fault because they dont want to piss off the ms-players. weird logic but understandable because ps4 HAS TO BE better. ;)

Why cant players of both brands be happy bout another great mulitplayer game?

Is there a reason people keep bringing up cross-gen games to compare the performance gap? You do realize it's just going to get harder for Xbox fans trying to prove that the PS4 being ~1.4x as powerful as the One isn't going to make a difference, as soon as more exclusives start coming out? So why struggle to prove there is no difference? The word is already out and nothing will change the (true) perception that the One is weaker.

I don't know why people are surprise. Third party developers want to make as much profit as possible so they make their games with the weaker console in mind so that way they don't have to spend a whole lot of time optimizing it. Plus, they don't want a bad relationship with the console manufacture / fan base.

The first part of what your saying makes some sense. The second doesn't. The game was originally going to release 900p, some resources were freed up and now its 1080p. Bungie was ready and willing to release an inferior version. Plus a couple pixels is nothing compared to how hard bungie is screwing over xbox owners with their destiny exclusivity deals so they seem perfectly fine with burning down bridges from what I can tell.

Fact is bungie is working on 4 different consoles. It is ridiculous to expect them to be able to max out any of these consoles the same way a first party would. It doesn't mean they are deliberately downgrading any version, it just means they have to deal with the reality of limited time and resources.

I will buy the version that is not a generic mindless First Person Shooter.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Been gone for a while and apparently this is still a thing.

Seeing some crazy double standard post here. PS4 favored "praise the mighty ps4"
PS4 parity "developers didn't really try"

good stuff........this will never end, jumping back out of this.
