I think the Wii U is an absolute failure. I love my little failure, thought. It's not your fault, buddy. Those were the cards you were dealt.

Neither one is failing.
This is really getting tiresome.

It all depends on how you look at it.
If you think being a money consuming black hole is a failure, the Wii U is a failure. If you think having to lower your expected sales by something like half is a failure, the Wii U is a failure.
If you think games should be about fun, great mechanics, and tight controls, the Wii U is a smashing success.

You make a great argument. Ill give you that
Neither are failures, both are failures... It all depends on which version of the word failure you're using. If using the very worse, thankfully neither are. Yet.

And heres how i look at it, calling a console a failure so early in to it's retail life is stupid.
the Wii U is doing ok now but I don't think you can really compare it to Xbox One.
Wii U has been out for a year and a half and has had most of its biggest names hit the system (Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Mario 3D, Mario 2D, Zelda Remaster and Mario Kart). It needed all of that and a price cut to reach this new 60k/week baseline. I'm sure it will rise even higher once smash bros comes out, but I think the system will approach its peak in the next 12months.
The Xbox on the other hand been out for 8month and hasn't had any of its 1st party big hitters (Halo, gears, Fable), yet is fairly competitive sales wise. Once Halo and 3rd party next gen exclusives (AC Unity, Batman, Witcher 3) come out, the Xbox will be selling alot more. In short its mediocrity is around equal to the Wii U's peak.

I wouldn't call it early days for the Wii U, I think the ceiling has been set for it no matter what they do (25-30m). But at the same time I think it has some room to improve with smash bros, more varied exclusives like beyonetta and X, Zelda in 2015 and the potential for further price cuts.

Yeah, calling them failure is a bit too much; ok, WiiU Global user base is really low considering the Console was released 1 full year before PS4 and XBone. But still there are very good games available and selling numbers right now are not so sooo low to call both WiiU and XOne failure.
I just hope both MS and Nintendo will release better hardware Next Gen.

Yeah it probably won't much more than 25-30 million but even if it doesn't is that really a failure? Was the N64 or Gamecube a failure? As long as they can make some profit, release some great games and make fans happy that should be considered a success. |
Yeah, I think the only system in risk of failiure as opposed to merely being a system that underperforms is the Vita. The thing about the Vita is that I really can't gauge its ceiling in Japan, its getting more and more support as the weeks pass by. Square and Capcom must be paying attention...
