Forums - Gaming - The difference between the failure of the XB1 and the Wii U.

Well, reason why PS4 is doing better is because its overhyped, thats what I think. People buy it because the "trend".

While it's library of games I want is currently thin, you can't deny that it is the best home console for multiplat games this generation, and that's just not going to change. Until more people jump onto the PC for multiplats, it's hard to say the PS4 is overhyped.

The XBox alienated most of their possible userbase with the DRM fiasco and bundled kineckt. And now that everyone is getting a PS4, it's more attractive to buy a Playstation than a Xbox.

On the other hand, the WiiU only attracted the traditional Nintendo fanbase, and sales were slow because releases were slow.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Sales wise they're failing but the 360 at the same point in time as the Wii U was around 10m so who knows. They could both end up selling over 50 million but idk it's not VERY possible. They both need to play their cards right and MAYBE it will happen. But software wise at least.. Wii U has gave me a lot of games. I own 17 games.

/cut list

So I'll have a total of 33 Wii U games before too long.. that's more games than I have for the Wii

As long as you are enjoying your console, it's not a failure, and with all those great games to play, you will certainly enjoy it for years to come.

Exactly. It's easier for Nintendo to overcome their failings. They can collaborate on second party releases and/or expand their size to increase their ability to put out games. The XB1 is almost completely in the control of third parties.

The Wii U is a failure from the sales perspective. It is a failure because of what it hasn't done yet. The XB1 is a failure as well. It is failing because of what it can't do. That's the biggest difference, and only one of those is, relatively, easily corrected.

I thought it was the other way around. X1 because of sales and Wii U because of what it can't.

It goes both ways. The way the article said if you look at First Party support, and the way you said if you look at Third Party support.

Remove that maybe this instant, young man!

The failings are the same for both consoles - too little power leading to a cap on innovation in games. Most of the market sees this, hence the low sales on both.

Yeah, no.

Power isn't needed for innovation, and innovation clearly trumps power when done right.

This was utterly silly. One does not even ahhhh forget it.
