Forums - Gaming - Anti-Indie'ers are giving me cancer!

There is a fair amount of people that did not grow up during the 8/16 bit era. Theres a lot of now adult gamers that pretty much exclusively gamed with 3D games. The indy visuals are abrasive to them. Those kids look like ones that bought into the PS4 hype expecting GOW, Uncharted and the like all in the first year. To be fair the "proper" game selection on this gen is thin.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

They don't that's the point, indies haev nothing to do with AA and AAA games, that's why bashing them is incredibly stupid. Indies being there or going away has ZERo effect on AA or AAA games. More games = good period, and there are some really good indies.

I never said that they are trying to replace them, I was referring to the OP where it was mentioned that indies are essential due to AAA dtudios closing. I'm saying that indies don't even come close to replacing them.

i've got to disagree with you there..

..i'd rather play fez 2 than the next halo, gta, assassin's creed, battlefield, call of duty, gears of war, gran turismo, forza, uncharted, batman, fallout, farcry, ect. and so forth.  i'm more excited for the witness than for destiny or even bloodborne (and i love the souls series).   AAA has become such monotonous, boring, drivel these days.  i could easily never buy another AAA again and just play indies but i could NEVER just play AAA and be happy.  too few.  too samey.  too dudebro.

i am glad to have choices though.

I'm glad to have choices, but I guarantee that the vast majority of gamers will take a game like Witcher 3 or Destiny over most indies.

It's different from person to person, but the AA and AAA is what drives console sales, not indies. Indies can be found a dime a dozen on PC, and much cheaper than they are on console (not to mention even the worst PCs can play most indies).

No Man's Sky is my most anticipated game and it's an indie, so I love my indies too. The fact of the matter remains that console sales cannot be sustained by just indies, it takes AAA and AA studios to sell consoles.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Most Indie games are garbage.

I liked some like Super Meat Boy and the excellent To The Moon, but I hate the fact some get a free pass because of their indie status. Moreover, they can be a side-show but are never going to replace bigger games.

Sorry. Braid plays awfully and always will. Nice twist, but it is boring.

AAA and indie are both mostly rubbish.
Mid-tier is where the real quality's at.

example?

Muramasa, Cladun

I am part of your cancer. The only indie game on my wishlist is Shovel Knight, and at $15 it is low low low on my list of priorities. Why buy indie garbage when I can buy real low budget games like Pushmo, Child of Light, or NES Remix for the same price or less?

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Never bought an indie game and may never buy one. I just haven't seen any that caught my interest. However, I recognize that they work for some, just not for me. I do reconcile with the idea that one doesn't buy a ps4 to play indies though they may fill a void. Problem is that void is massive at the moment which is why people are frustrated.

I think my biggest problem with ps4 is ultimately the lack of BC. I got a PS3 in the launch window too and while the "no games" situation was probably even worse, I didn't even notice because I was too busy playing ps2 late bloomers and even ps1 games. PS3 can't play anything but ps3 games so when there are no ps3 games incoming, it's just a dust collector.

Not a single one at any point has caught your interest?

Nope, not a single one from the one I've seen. Maybe I'm missing something. Doesn't help that my favorite genres are widescale WRPGs, JRPGs and especially grid SRPGs (I'd give even horrible games in this genre a shot because they are so few and far between. I'm still debating buying a 3DS for Fire Emblem Awakening. Problem is I haven't seen anything else I'd like to play on it).

Surprised you never tried Reccettear or some of the Penny Arcade titles.

I play indies on my PC, where there are far more for cheaper and (at times) significantly better.

I'm not anti-indie, but indies can't replace mid-tier games.

Actually it does have an effect.

Heck, Sony is  using it a distraction from their lack of games library. Do you really think that if a system was successful purely on indies driving it, that the moneybags behind it will feel the need to pump money into bigger projects, possibly risking failure, when they can just pocket it? They will pocket the money as bonuses or shift it to other departments.

Distraction? Sure okay, as games in themselves are distractions. Sure they have an effect but in a positive way. They are allowing Sony's studios to take their time in developing their games while giving players games to play in the meantime.

This ensures that the developers aren't under the gun the whole development cycle and helps us get better games. Your leap towards Sony abandoning AAA titles is based on nothing but conjecture and is just wrong. The influx of indie games is better for the industry and better for those who actually like to play games.

I don't get the whole indie vs AAA war that's been going on lately. I don't care if a game is AAA or indie. I care about exactly one thing: is it a good game? That's it. If an indie game is good, I want it. If a AAA game is good, I want it. I don't care which one it is though.
