Forums - Gaming - Anti-Indie'ers are giving me cancer!

I don't have a PS4. I have Xbox 360 and One.
I've seen what independent and small devs do. Every once in a while they come out with a gem but most of the time it's the same 2D platformer shizzle.

I think I found your issue, you are speaking from ignorance, very few PSn indies are not top quality ones, Sony does not just put any indie on the store. Some have very high production values like outlast, Resogun, Dead Nation........ BArely any on PS4 are "2d platformer from nes days", Sounds liek MS quality control is garbage.

There's a difference between self publishing and having to meet specific requirements to get your game onto a platform. A publisher is just a middle man who will only choose to publish something they think will create a big return, this actually just stifles more interesting concepts being released.

The problem with a lot of steam releases is that there is no/limited quality control measures in place the same applies to the Apple App store and Google Play etc. SCEA/SCEE both have their own functionality requirements before they will allow a game onto their store, regardless of whether it is the studio that made the game or a publisher wanting to bring that game out on PSN.

Therefore the stuff you don't like on PSN that's indie hasn't got quality problems, you just plain don't like that content. Acclaim and THQ put out some right dross in their times, particularly in the 8 and 16 bit days despite being huge players in the industry at the time.

It's just a matter of time. Wait till they get used to dev kits and the flood gate will open.

You can see the future?? That's not an argument, that's you predicting he future...Sony has quality in mind with games, they are not microsoft.

I think both sides are pretty ridiculous. The people who hate indies and the people who do nothing but praise them. There are some great indie games and there are bad ones, just like every game out there.

So which PS4 games do you consider NES platformers en mass with dubious quality? I'd wager that 8bit styled platformers don't even make up the majority of the indie releases on PSN.

Sit back and relax, Sony said they have hundreds of Indy games coming within 1 year.

I'm pretty sure PS4 will catch on the trend.

Have you actually seen the games? They cover a large number of genres and development budgets. Very few are 8bit styled platformers.

This. They are games for Christ's sake. Like absolutely anything else there are going to be good ones and bad ones, and then for the most part the vast majority are going to be plain don't give a crap about it ones.

I agree with you. It's not like AAA doesn;t have bad games cause they sure do. Many are actually same idea over and over, style over substance.

8 bit, 16 bit, they're mostly 2D platformers and they rarely branch out.

For every 1 non 2D platformer, there are 10 2D platformer.

I'm talking about small games. Let's discuss it inthis perspective games smaller than 1/2GB and the ones over it.

Metroidvania style, Mario style how many times have you heard these expressions to describe small games in the past 5 years?

You need to pay attention and read the thread title. Small games =/= indies. Your constant goalpost moving is not contributing to the discussion at all. It's even worse when you don't know the entire scope of the indie situation as proven from your "I don't have a PS4. I have Xbox 360 and One" statement.
