Forums - Gaming - TitanFall(EA) vs Destiny(Activision)

EA seems to have the opposite ofbthe Midas touch for gen 7 and gen 8 IP. Their past gen IP seems to be doing really well: Fifa and Madden in particular, and NFS too but to a lesser degree. MoH seems to be the main casualty from before gen 7, CoD was the MoH killer if I'm not mistaken.

Just look at what Ubisoft did with watchdogs, they have successfully created another franchise that they would obviously go on to milk like they did with uncharted.

I am really hoping that sunset overdrive can do for EA and XO what gears did for epic and 360.

What....?

Am i the only one that feels there is something wrong with EA? I don't know if its just bad luck or generally bad business decisions. But they seem to always drop the ball whenever they seem to be just about to do something special.

First it was BF4. The hype that game had after its "fishing in Baku" reveal was astronomical. Then they released the game (buggiest AAA game ever released till this day) and have now probably completely damaged the BF brand forever. Then Titanfall. Dunno if it was bad luck getting into bed with MS (though considering the 360 they probably thought they were doing the right thing) but that was another lost opportunity. Just look at what Ubisoft did with watchdogs, they have successfully created another franchise that they would obviously go on to milk like they did with uncharted. But it will at least be yet another 5-7M selling franchise. But EA seems to have completely blown it with Titanfall, the IP doesn't seem to command the same kinda success or even recognition that Watchdogs did and nowhere near all the fanfare that seems to be around Destiny. I can't help but feel that maybe Titanfall would have become an all round better game and IP if they gave it some more time and maybe even released it on the PS4 as it really doesn't seem like going exclusive did the IP any favors.

Then of course there is sunset overdrive. I don't really understand exactly what happened there but I think its really messed up from a business perspective that in this day and age a third party publisher is still making platform exclusives. I mean make it timed, exclusive content...something. But being exclusive to just the XO doesn't seem to be in their best interest. EA simply doesn't have an IP that commands the kinda numbers that CoD, Destiny, AC, WD commands. I am really hoping that sunset overdrive can do for EA and XO what gears did for epic and 360.

Now Activision has CoD and Destiny. Two Ips that would  probably sell over 10M copies each. Ubisoft has Watchdogs, Assasins Creed and The division (that seem to be doing the kinda platform exclusivity they did with PS4+watchdogs which I think is smarter) that all could be at least 5-7M sellers each. EA has what? Fifa and Madden? Those games are too regional to be veru successful. And even those franchises have people very disgruntled with EA over their lack of innovation in them. especially with Madden. Am I the only one that thinks EA needs to change a lot of things?

What do you all think?

everyone hates EA :D horrible origin and packs to take your money in fifa

hope 4 majora remake :D

I am sorry but there seems to be an awful lot wrong with this.

In the first instance you've cited Titanfall, a game that by most accounts would not have been made without Microsoft's support, as a failure. However, as best as I can see Titanfall (XOne) is currently the best selling exclusive title on any platform this generation.  Further, it has sold over three million copies across all available platforms. You've then compared this title to a game that was always going to be made, without any substantial support from a first party. That game has sold well, sure. Its also not as good a game as Titanfall (though I grant you Watch Dogs is a very different kind of game). To be clear, it seems likely that if Titanfall hadn't been released in the (very successful) way that it was, it would never have been released at all.

You've then railed against Sunset Overdrive, which again makes no sense as the title is neither published by or funded by EA. Again, it is funded by Microsoft and so is, of course exclusive.

I don't know what the point of this thread is really, except to highlight the strong content offerings Microsoft is making this generation?

Lol you know Sunset Overdrive isn't an EA game right?

Just like he knows Uncharted isn't an Ubisoft game :P

Jeez that was a typo... but thanks so much for nice correcting me.

And I was under the impression that insomniac was still in a publishing partnership with EA. And that EA had first dibs on sunset overdrive but passed up on it.

What does sunset overdrive have to do with ea and activision?

This is really just  a thread about EA or the state of EA. And i never said Titanfall was a failure, I just saidit was another lost opportunity. I sincerely believe that titanfall was the one game that could take activation off its FPS throne. So as good as it is, and even if it has sold over 3M copies, I still feel its not as big as it could have been if handled differently. Yes, I am aware that MS saved the game, but really how messed up is that? Why didn't EA get fully behind it to begin with. If I recall it had someting to do with IP ownership in relation to publishing rights.

This thread though is about EA and their offerings when compared to activison and ubisoft. But activision in particular cause I really expected titanfall to be the game to topple CoD.

And for the record (this is directed at everyone else) Drop the uncharted thing, that was obviously a typo. And I have edited the OP. As for sunset overdrive, that was just a mistake on my part cause i sincerely thought EA had some sort of partnership with Insomniac.

I agree that EA has a terrible reputation and with good reason, but I started highlighting all the errors in your post, and I gave up because there were so many.

Same here man.
