Forums - Gaming - WiiU surge is because of PS4 and X1 disapointment?

etking said:

All systems struggle if no good games are available. The Wii-U is the only system that is already past this stage because PS4 and X1 do currently offer not a single AAA game at all, only mediocre games like Titanfall, Infamous or Sunset overdrive.

PS4 currently heavily lacks Japanese games and JRPGs, so there is no reason to buy one for many PS3 owners. X1 will end up at 3rd place outside of UK and US and does not really matter to the worldwide market at all.

But the biggest problem of the new consoles is that any gaming PC will allow much higher resolution, FPS, texture quality and shader effects because the AMD APU is extremely weak and completely outdated compared to any Intel CPU combined with a modern GPU.

Do you believe that all PS3 owners are JRPG fans? Actually that's not such a huge number in the west, there are probably more people buying a PS console for Fifa/Cod/AC every year in the west than for JRPGs in all of a PS consoles lifecycle.

Also gaming PCs are not a problem for consoles, if they were then consoles would have gone extinct years ago.

Yeah, that article is just another hate flame post against Nintendo.

When Nintendo has bad sales it goes all like 'WiiU is doomed, low specs, noone wants it' and if it does better they will say 'It's just because the other two are momentarily short on games, but surely not because of Nintendo's line up'

I love my Wii U.

It's actually not a zero sum game. While I'd rather Nintendo be sitting on top, it's a good thing that sales rose for all three systems.

It's true the other two consoles sold on promise of games, not on games.

In parallel, the U is doing well on its own merits thanks to solid games.

I keep reading this, but I think it's far from the truth.

You have to take into account the ps' entire history and Sony's support of their systems. The ps3 was supported until the end of last uear whereas the wii  didn't get much support from ninty the last year or two before the launch of wiiu. It's about customer satisfaction. I owned both a wii and ps3 and have no plans of buying a wii, but plan on buying a ps4 due to my huge disappointment in the wii. If you get burned, like people felt they did with the psp and wii, the successor rarely does well after that.

The fact that 3rd parties never had much faith in wiiu and ended up not relasing enough games on it combined with the fact that multiplats run better on ps4 made several people go with a ps4 instead. That's not a promise of games. It's games looking better on ps4 than xb1 or wiiu. And since 3rd parties are what a lot of gamers care about (cod, destiny, watch_dogs, fifa, etc), why buy a wiiu? The wiiu is mostly for people who want Ninty ip's and the majority of gamers doesn't seem to care enough to buy a console for it.

You simply can't know how many people bought a ps4 for Killzone, Second Son, and for best console graphics. Because in that respect it's doing well on its own merits (combo of hardware and games).

Sounds fair.

Let me ask it this way. If you were to encourage someone to buy a PS4, what would be your main selling point?

The reason I ask is because I doubt it's about the games that are currently out.

I don't disagree with you at all. It would most definitely not be about the games available at the moment.

So you're right about that. However, sorry to disappoint you, but my main point would be a general one, i.e. that the entire package is better. Better hardware (so multiplats will look better), ps+ being the best service I can think of, some great games available now (Tomb Raider, Infamous, The last of us, Watch dogs), and of course "promises" as you put it. I would tell him that if he's interested in 3rd party games, he should not buy a wiiu. If he's deciding between xb1 and ps4, he should go with the latter, as I don't like MS' policies and ps4 is better value for your money hardware-wise. Ulitmately, though, it'd depend on the person. For example, if he was a loner, I would not bring up "most of your friends will probably have a ps4". No matter who asks me, I don't think I would ever give a single reason because I'd need to find out what they care for the most. If I was forced to give one reason, though, it'd be better hardware.

There are around 100 million gamers who don't have a next gen console. Just because the Xbox One and PS4 are selling just as good as they have been in the past few weeks, doesn't mean the jump the Wii U has received didn't come from those disappointed in the Xbox One and PS4 line ups.  Mario Kart 8 plus the disappointment of the next gen consoles could be the reason people got the Wii U.  With big releases on any console, you usually see a sales spike for a week or two and then it drops back to regular levels.  The Wii U has had its sales spike for a month and a half.

I'm purchasing a PS4 before I purchase a Wii U because I'm interested in Dragon Age Inquisition, Destiny, and other cross platform multiconsole titles that aren't appearing on the Wii U. My most anticipated title on the Wii U is Super Smash Bros which comes out later in the year, but there's also all the releases prior to that I'm interested in that I'll also pick up.

There might be some people who don't care about the bump in resolution from PS3 to PS4 and getting Dragon Age Inquisition and Destiny on the PS3 or Xbox 360 is fine for them. So those people who don't have the large backlog of games for the Wii U and are interested the larger exclusive line up released this year might get a Wii U instead.

I'd get a Wii U right now and still get a PS4 later, but I've already waited this long on purchasing the system. There's bound to be a drop in price sometime soon. If the drop in price does come before I purchase the PS4 though, the Wii U is my next console then the PS4 will be after. .

I was already disappointed in the PS4 and X1. Wii U was the natural choice.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Well PS4 is selling the same as it was and Xbox One actually boosted, so that article is BS!

Actually PS4 had a small bump. From 197k on May NPD to 269k on June NPD so discounting 49k on extra week would leave us at 23k that is 4,6k/week average bost or 9% bump.

I think it has more to do with the WiiU finally got a bonafide system seller of a game in Mario Kart.

Yep,

That's the story of my life.

THATS the story of your life...?
