Forums - Gaming - Square Enix sends cease and desist letter to FF Type 0 PSP translation group

This is acceptable. If Square wasn't planning on releasing at all then that's a different story.

Annoying, but I can see where SE is coming from. The translation would probably just cannibalize on actual game sales

The only problem is that the translation pacth has been out since last month.  the damage has been done its out on the internet forever.

^This. It's pointless now. Fans shouldn't have been the first to release a translation to begin with. Their own fault

No, it is not this. If you believe that then you also believe that anybody should be able take your car keys because your not using it and they feel they gave a legitimate reason that justifies it.

Not the same. If you take my car keys, I cant drive my car anymore. If you release a translation for my work, I can still release mine. They are not even necessarily on competing platforms. You can't blame fans for doing this  when people have been asking for years to deaf ears from the company. This is not the first game to get a translation. Valkyria Chronicles 3 did as well for the same reasons.

The right way would have been to have announced a translation way earlier. That way, no one would have even taken on the project to begin with. It was born from desperation of customers not a desire to "steal" from S-E as you seem to be implying. It's not like these people sold the translation for money.  S-E pretended not to care about all the people clamoring for a translation. Now, all of a sudden, they care.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

@ mods & OP.

Nowhere in the link does Sky mention a C & D letter. Don't blindly copy stuff from other sites.

lol.. what would you have me write down? "SE threatens to kill kittens to stop Type 0 translation" if the kid got a message from SE to stop with the translation patch it's a C&D..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Put this on hold. Need to leave

How not to handle public relations.

How Square Enix should have done it. Engage community, work with fans, get this fan translated supported and released on PSN splitting profits. Everyone cheers you, you barely spent any money and make a profit.

What they did was ignore people for years and then after pissing everyone off, announce an HD version for consoles and did their own translation and after the fan one was complete they kill it.

I swear it is like this company wants to be hated with everything they do past decade.
