Forums - Gaming - Sony is looking at remastering PS3 titles the same way Disney remasters movies

lol, people acting like backwards compatibility of ps3 games is a simple solution, right, because writing a software emulator to recompile code designed for the cell processor to an x86 processor is so super easy...

head in the clouds.

Personally i just hope they do a hd re-release of the ace combat series.

Yeah, we wouldnt want the companies to make an effort. That would be too convenient for us...

That would be brilliant, Ace Combat Infinity isn't quite doing it for me right now

reeks of desperation to me

yep seems like it! imagine if they were kicking the competition ass!

i sense sarcasm in this post.. and if that is true, the joke is actually on you because sony is doing the worst out of everybody.. so thinking of this as a desperation tactic does make more sense than you probably realize.

great comeback.

Uhh, Nintendo did all of that on the Wii, and the Wii U is fully BC with the Wii. There are some procedural hurdles to be sure, but expense is not one of them, given that it's a straight shot architecturally.

Cost can indeed be a huge issue. It depends on the hardware architectures used in the current and succeeding system. For reference check PS3 backwards compatibity with PS2 and see for yourself how it was ditched due to cost issues. PS3 wasn't powerful enough to emulate PS2 games through software.

That's what i mean, though. Wii U's chipset is designed for a sort of no-effort Wii emulation, because its right in line as PowerPC, which would mean that GC is in that line as well, since Wii and GC were yet more identical, silicon-wise. Meanwhile, Nintendo made working emulators for NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, Neo*Geo, and the T16 to run on the Wii.

Ergo, nothing should be impossible here.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

So i take it this is why there was no backwards compatibility.

The reason there is no backwards compatibility is the same reason there was no backwards compatibility for N64, SNES, and GCN for Nintendo.  And to a lesser extent Xbox One, Xbox 360.  It's too expensive.

Software emulation is not expensive though, in fact its free.

Good luck software-emulating the PS3.

But aren't those movies like...very old?

You act like they're giving up on new games and making only re-releases.

But then, since all you seem to do is complain about stuff i'm hardly surprised.

Yes, I complain when I think companies are taking advantage of their customers. Im a bit weird that way...

Age is just a number.

Well many of those movies looked very ugly for nowadays standards and/or were for VHS or were in SD and not adapted to widescreens (not in 16:9 ratio), so I see why they needed remasters urgently XD thankfully there was a Finding Nemo remaster
But most PS3 games look still incredible/good nowadays and were in HD from the start.

Because releasing games that you are not forced to buy is taking advantage, right?
