Forums - Gaming - The Truth, The Illusion and The Opinion

Yeah, you should probably take "The Truth" out of the title, cause it's pretty much all opinion and some of it seems to have very little basis.

For instance, how are AAA games more risky on PC than consoles?  People seem to be suggesting that games don't sell well on PC, so I'll just leave this here:

Ubisoft FY 2012-13 Q3 Sales Call

Q: Far Cry 3: Mix between consoles and PCs?
A: 1mil units on PC, 3.5mil on console.

Q: Talk about PSN/XBL downloads?
A: This is becoming more and more important on consoles. Sony pushed that first, we think Microsoft will make it happen closer to the launch of games at retail. PC downloads are more than 50% of revenue (Quoted Far Cry figures include all platforms). PC is giving more of a push, if consoles becomes more connected, we might have a boost. Nintendo is doing more than they used to on that front.

Like it or not, the PC market is hugely important relative to ALL types of games, especially considering the fact that digital distribution yields higher margins.

You know, it's funny that you pretend to know exactly how much Watch Dogs and Titanfall sold on the PC, even though official numbers were never released for either, since digital game sales are almost never made public.

From gamespot.

ConsolePercentage of Software Sales From April-June 2014
PlayStation 4 36%
Xbox One 17%
PlayStation 3 17%
Xbox 360 14%
PC 14%
Wii 1%

So, the worst version of the game in terms of optimization still managed to sell almost the same amount as the 360, PS3, and One? Sounds like a win to me.

I bet you would see it that way. But now lets take the OP in account. It clearly stated that there are by far more gaming pcs that current gen consoles. So how does such a huge market that keeps increasing come in last? And the worst thing is that the gen just began and the ps4 and x1 will increase in install base wich will increase sales of software, while we can asume that most gaming pcs are already stronger than ps4 then the install base might not grow that much cuz people existing users just upgrade constanly so thas why sales of hardware will keep growing but software might stay the same.

Because most people who own gaming PCs wanted nothing to do with the mess Watch Dogs was on the platform.

Illusion: Watch dogs was unoptimized. So PC sales are low.

The truth: Ubisoft as well as major publishers; is very pleased with PS4 and Xbox One software sales.

What does crappy optimization on PC have to do with console sales?

They can always go play Mobas and MMO's wich are mainly on pcs. Oh wait, they are made for the average consumer not the 2000$ rigs so its still not optimzed.

This is the problem with pcs, by not having a standart, most devs will make a game that the majority will play wich are cheaper pcs that are probably weeker than consoles.
