Forums - Microsoft - MS potentially cutting up to 6k jobs, Xbox EU Marketing possibly part of cuts

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-15/microsoft-said-to-announce-job-cuts-as-soon-as-this-week.html

The reductions -- which may be unveiled as soon as this week -- will probably be in areas such as Nokia and divisions of Microsoft that overlap with that business, as well as marketing and engineering

The restructuring may end up being the biggest in Microsoft history, topping the 5,800 jobs cut in 2009

Some of the job cuts will be in marketing departments for businesses such as the global Xbox team, said the people. The European Xbox team is based in Reading, U.K.

Mod, please move this to the MS section didn't mean to post it in the Gaming section

That's a lot of employees going down the drain ...

Well it sucks for the guys who got laid off but I seriously hope that Microsoft will provide those employees some job placement services and they get another job fast.

I believe that the first thing after Nadella's statement/letter last week was to start predicting on the number of job cuts, because the fact that there will be cuts was certain.
I wonder if that XBox part is correct, especially with the entire department being in the UK (didn't know that, but it's not surprising). What could that mean? Staying focused on UK only, disregarding the mainland Europe?
Also, very strange if that happens now, given the timing of imminent release of XOne to Tier 2 EU countries (11 in EU, 4 outside of EU). Even if those countries are smaller and less relevant, surely this would impact the potential market penetration. And also, the rest of EU and East European countries are guaranteed never to get MS/XB support (at least nothing would change there from the X360 era).

If I wouldn't know it better I would believe that they never had a marketing team for the EU.

Sucks for those who lose their jobs but I hope at least for a good change if it comes to the horrible marketing at least in Germany.

That's not good. I guess the poor Europe X1 sales is the reason for this.

Wow, that sucks. That is a lot of jobs if true. Funny how people were making fun of Sony a couple of months ago and now Microsoft is cutting 6000 jobs (if true), ironic huh.

There is nothing ironic since it is a different situation.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Nothing ironic about it unless MS is also cutting/selling because they are broke as fuck.

But I think they profited like a kachazillion dollars last quarter, someone check the math on that.
