Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Explains Why PS4 Hasn't Caught Fire In Japan-

Sony kind of screwed themselves because no matter what they do, they won't win the US over the long terms and they essentially gave up on Japan.

PS didn't sony say ps4 was selling out, maybe they were embellishing a little.

I'll tell you why. It's because they sold out their own people to grab a slice of the US pie and take it to MS. As a result, the Wii-U, as console with AAA Japanese games developed by Japanese developers, has stolen their thunder. It's going to be an uphill battle winning that country back after this imo because it means releasing Japanese games and they don't have that as a priority.

Yeah, Sony screwed up big time with PR in Japan. Releasing the console 4 months late in their own home-country? Not to mention that Sony's first-party exlcusives shifted towards the western audience after gen 6.

It's a shame too because Japanese games, imo, are much better. When you play a game like Gears of War and then load up Xenoblade and that opening screen and music start playing, you quickly realize just how much more love and passion are put into games over there. They still treat it as an art form.

hmm... The tried and test PS3 but yet, the PS3 sales are not really increasing that much. They are about equal to the PS4 and you'd think by now, they'd jump on doing both and porting their games to the other one.

Personally, I'd attribute it to the fact that Japan loves RPGS/JRPGS. PS4 has little to none, in the way of solid RPGS/JRPGS. When that changes, Japan will get behind it.
