Forums - Nintendo - Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: Where Nintendo Falls Short

We'll both probably get a lot of hate from people crying, "As long as it's fun, who cares???" but I agree with you. Scope and depth are exactly what Nintendo games have been lacking. They used to take an idea and really run with it, but now it's all about condensing one idea into a simple, straightforward experience. It's like they just stopped caring to take the time to craft a full game, because everyone was just buying New Super Mario Bros. games anyway.

This is a great example of something that could have been so much more. Instead it's a mini game disguised as a retail game.

Thanks. I don't see why it's ok for Nintendo to do things like this and not other publishers and developers.

Have you played Super Mario 3D World?

This is what we've seen of this game. You play on small square pieces of land. That's what I'm talking about, a more complete 3d world to start off with rather than these small islands.

Well if you havent played the game, then you wont know why the stuff you suggested wouldnt work. Each level is like a rubiks cube, you need to twist and turn the world aroung to get to your goal.

I would rather they did what you suggested and make a new game though:)

Yes, it wouldn't work in its current form, I'm saying take the IDEA of a treasure hunter and really expand on it and make a full game out of it.

Well toad walks slower than a guy with shit in his pants so I think tiny levels suit better.

Plus its a mario game if the levels were bigger the puzzles would be harder.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

Lol. Why are we getting bogged down in these minor details like how fast he walks? That can easily be changed. Your second point is exactly what I'm talking about, add more depth to the game and make it more challenging and compelling as a full retail release.

We don't know enough about the scope or story of the game to really have this discussion.

Wanting more of an over world, I understand however.

I think we do know enough don't we? What we've been told is that it's a bunch of levels like the Toad levels in 3D world. They had a bunch of time playing it on the Treehouse if I remember correctly and there wasn't much more to it than that.

the game is meant to be pick up and play and then leave it when you feel like it rather than having to explore and find stuff in a bigger world. not everything needs to be big and story based

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I disagree. A game with Toad can never bee a full game with a story cause Toad is such an uninteresting character.

He is, but maybe that's because he hasn't been in a game with a good story, or been the focus of a game like this?

Maybe, but I don't think he can ever be the main character in a game.

Im not dissagreeing with you I would love it to be a challening game, but the truth is both Mario and cute characters like these appeal more to children. Nintendo will try and make sure it's easy to understand and play while also giving a feeling of accomplishment. When there are too many aspects said children may get stuck on a certain puzzle. Mario as a franchise is currently cemented as a easy to pick up and play franchise so making depth to one seems illogical, at least in Nintendo's eyes.

There was only 3 basic levels in the Kirby Tree house too, and we still know nothing about Smash Bros' modes. Maybe we do (I never watched the Captain Toad tree house I admit) but I think things like Boss Battles point to something larger in scope.
