Forums - Sony - LittleBigPlanet, Priced & Could be the PS3's Biggest Game

Here's the thing, though: having a die-hard community raring to try out LBP is a GREAT thing for a game that needs users to put content into the system. If they can help build a good level-building community, then that will make a better experience for more casual gamers who try it out, who will recommend it to friends etc.

I'm the first to admit that this game would seem better suited for the Wii, but it's going to PS3 and I think it'll do great. 2D platforming FTW! Honestly, where else can we get our fix on current-gen home consoles?
Don't say Virtual Console!

The fact that it's going to have a full story mode is great news.

I think LBP will sell surprisingly well on the PS3. The interest is huge amongst the online communities.

This should be a giant, red, flashing, whirring, whining alarm.

Why do you think so?

I'm just going to repost my additional post on the first page, and point out, more emphatically, that what internet forum dwellers and the mass market enjoy have proved inreasingly disparate as the years have gone on.

If I'm proven wrong I'm proven wrong, but I'll make my statement quite clearly:

People who think this game will be huge are out of touch with reality and the mass market. I think the people who think this game will be huge are the type of people who thought Wii Fit would fail.

Please keep in mind that LBP is easily my most anticipated PS3 game this year (unless Afrika resurfaces).

1-2 million copies would be my guess. That makes it a good seller, but not blockbuster quality. Around what RE4: Wii edition or Red Steel ended up doing.

Eh, that's the same thing peole were saying about Zack and Wiki though. I mean where else could one indulge their point and click wants?

I'm just worried this will be the next Z&W.  Highly reviewed and unbelievably overhyped by the interent (from a sales perspective.)

Though it does seem like they actually plan to push it.  Lets hope it gets at least half the advertising Heavenly Sword did.

Me I don't care that much. I'm not likely to use anyone's online stages and I don't care if people play my stages or not. I'd just build a lot of levels for me and my own personal friends.

Also... Paper Mario pretty much counts as far as 2-D platforming goes. You have to go 3-D at times but it seems minimal.

I'm the type of person who thought they would both be huge, and for some of the same reasons. Still am.

I think LBP will be a huge word of mouth game.

I know I will be trying to convince my friends to get it once I have it to show them.

But there's more to it than that. LBP is also going to be the focus of a serious marketing push by Sony. I have a feeling it's going to become the console's mascot game: expect the sackboy character to show up next to the logo in all the PS3 ads, for instance.

Speaking at an event for the game in London

What event was this, and why haven't I heard anything else from it?

So does Sony release non-Blu-ray games for the PS3???

Uh ... joke question?

PSN says hi.

Ah, well that makes sense. I was assuming it meant something like what they did with PS2 games. i.e. the early PS2 games were on CDs as they didn't need the space of a DVD. Thought, they might've done the same with PS3 games except for the BRD/DVD in this case.

Zack and Wiki did sell well for the kind of game is though. Also it wasn't advertised at all on TV or in store, which is much more effective to getting to people who don't already know about it.

I haven't read anything on LBP, so I don't exactly know what type of game it is (besides what I read in this thread). I wouldn't dare to say that it would sell more on the Wii, but at the same time, certain titles will not sell a lot on any console not matter what.

R and C is not any more casual than Madden. R and C also seems to target the 15-25 male demographic as I am not sure why it was even mentioned. I wouldn't even consider Viva Pinata as causal, though the party game variation is casual.

Guitar Hero may have targeted the male 15-25 male demographic (I'm not sure) but it seems to be a success with most female gamers in that age group, also. Hell, I know more females offline that play GH than males.
