Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Hiring “Super Creator” To Develop The Next Xbox Hardware; Aims to Improve Game Dev Tools

though the part about architecture and BC depends on how common or uncommon piracy becomes in the long run for this generation

Next gen will be fun. Looks like Microsoft is in this for the long term.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

It's good that they're planning their next console early this time. But going public with talk like this will give the impression that they weren't happy with the Xbox One current specs, and that they're planning to throw another console earlier than usual and first than Sony.

Really? I love it

Sony Already Thinking about PS5

The dust hasn't settled from the successful launch of the PS4 , but already the word PS5 is being tossed around by PlayStation Software Product Development Head Scott Rohde.
According to Rhodes Sony is already mulling over plans for the Playstation 5.

"We tend to start thinking about the development of the next system, surprisingly only a few years into the life cycle of the current gen," Rohde noted. The reasoning isn't just commerce, but also that creating a new console is the work of hundreds, if not thousands of people all over the world. "

Of course right now the PS5 is just a tick on the calender and a pipe dream. For now Sony will be concentrating on fine tuning the PS4 and making it the ultimate gaming machine that it is promising to be.

Nintendo Has Clear Ida of Next Console Beyond WiiU

It seems Nintendo is already looking to the future, as the hardware manufacturer revealed that it has a "clear idea" of what the Wii U's successor will look like.

In an investor Q&A, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata stated that while the company is still focused on satisfying Wii U owners, it has already been thinking up ideas for its next home console.

Iwata said: "Once we launch a new platform, we naturally start to prepare for the next one. As it takes several years to develop a single platform, if you ask us whether we are preparing for our next system, then the correct response will be that we are always developing new hardware."

He continued: "I of course believe that launching new hardware will not produce good results unless we first make sure that those who have already purchased our platforms are satisfied.

"We will continue to work hard to ensure that consumers who already own our platforms are satisfied, and make sure that people will continue to see great value in our software, but I would like to say that we are preparing for our next hardware system, and in fact, we already have a clear idea to some extent about the direction our next hardware is going to take."

Iwata also spoke of how he believes that the Wii U's sales will eventually get stronger, and that though the company projects the console will only sell 3.6 million units this year, he thinks that it will eventually garner more attention as it progresses further into its life cycle.

"We do not believe that this year's estimate of 3.6m units of Wii U hardware will be the peak of its lifecycle," Iwata said. "We would like to work hard to make sure that we give sufficient momentum to the system so that we can expect good results in and after the next fiscal year, too,"

The difference is that while Sony will start to design the console a few years into this generation, Microsoft is already hiring people to design the next console. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I mean that it's still too early to be thinking about designing the next Xbox when the X1 was released about 8 months ago. Sure, Microsoft can do what they want, but this seems pretty irregular.

Oh my bad.  How dare you Microsoft!  Why Microsoft, why!?  How dare you hire people to work on new hardware in the future that could take  years and years to finalize! How dare you!  Never again shal I trust Microsoft and their evil practices and obvious endeavors to replace existing hardware by ensuring they have a prospectul future.  Shame on me :(

Next gen will have Xbox have the best specs at the most competitive price.........and PS fans will be stuck between their loyalties and their 2 generation-long culture of being prideful of having the best specs :P

I can wait. Console wars never end.

Translation - I can't wait to skip this gen like a bad nightmare and hope to god that the next Xbox wins!  That way I can act like I used to in 2011 and 2012 instead of eating this humble pie!   Awe well, I still have English speaking countries to look forward to buying my box and they're all that matters anyways!!    :)

Well, being 2nd place 6 years faster then PS3 taking it isn't so bad ;)

Ill buy X1 for the Halos and that should do it for me. I'm low maintenance

(Why would I, or any english speaking gamer, REALLY care who buys more in Spain or whatever, aside from bragging online?)

looking at the front page i don't think you should count on xbox overtaking wiiU this year.

5 years.    ..maybe.  ;)

well the more input phil has on the console the better. why he may of had some with the one he didnt make the final call so hopefully this means next gen will be more even when it comes to power

Well I hope they fire the team that handled the development and launch of X1 and replace them with a team that knows more about the gaming market.

Source? And clearly even if legit sony is not thinking about PS5 because the actual quote says they start thinking about the next gen "a few years" into the new gen. We're not at a few years yet, we're only at 8 months. So your point is?

And since Nintendo is clearly doing relatively worse than xb one it's hardly surprising they already have one eye on gen 9.
