Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One consoles no longer double as dev kits (VG24/7 Article) - Refuted by Microsoft

So a specific executive whose name we know who works in a department where he would know this kind of thing says this, then a nameless action from Microsoft PR "refutes" it by saying "whatever he said was wrong, we're doing the best we can."

I'll be honest, I'll believe the named executive within the department before I believe Microsoft PR. Of course, I never cared all that much about this feature so it's no big deal to me, but it could have been interesting if there were suddenly 5million+ Xbone dev kits out there. Oh well.

I once had an argument with about a dozen xbox fans about this. I remember saying, "so, when ms said every console is a devkit, they meant project spark". An extraordinary number of people came forward telling me I was ridiculous and that every console was actually a devkit, and how this was already the reality, and how news was coming on the morrow. I think one person said it was one of the major reasons that they bought a unit.

I said it would never happen, and the others said it was already happening and pointed to a list of indies with ID @ xbox. In the end, because neither side could prove it was or was not real, we all agreed to watchful waiting for that surefire announcement... my acknowledgment was a shade more sarcastic than genuine. I still don't think this will ever take place, but as usual, "Not canceled" is a pretty good argument against my own. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, as usual. I think I'll watch from a safe distance. Better to be outside the house when testing the foundation.

So a good news becomes today "not a single fuck"... okay it is not an important feature but the contrast of this reaction is funny.

Probably not a big deal...however another 180 for MS is more bad press. something they still haven't managed to fix entirely yet.

Really??  The only people who would care about this type of stuff are fanboys fueling their list to go to battle against the opposite fanboys.  When all said and done this means nothing to the average consumer and would not change the viability of the X1 as a product.

This is what people were saying about the decisions MS made back when the X1 first came out. But considering that almost every piece of gaming news gets much more publicity these days, especially on youtube, id say this will get added to a long list of MS 180's with regards to the X1 and further the bad image of the console and the company. All these 180 decisions might be small but they add up.

And like i said in my initial comment...probably not a big deal.

@Bolded:  The only people who care about MS 180s are fanboys on both sides of the fence.  Sony Fanboys use it as a negative, MS fanboys use it as a positive.  In the middle are the consumers who just care about how much a console cost and will it have the games I want to play.  Even today, only fanboys remember about 180s MS, Sony and even Nintendo has made during the previous generation.  These types of things only add up on the fanboy battlefield then anything else.

From what I have seen, if its a positive 180 your average consumer take it as such.  Fanboys on the other side of the fence try to spin it as a negative.  Negative 180s are only revelant if you are affected which in this case will be a very small group.

Are you trying to argue that the decisions MS has made has not had an impact on sales? And are you also suggesting that the X1 doesnt have a bad image?

Not quite sure what you are trying to say. I'm saying the decisions MS has made with the X1 has contributed significantly to it's relatively bad image. And its had a direct impact on sales. X1 and PS4 created massive buzz end of last year...some of the most watched youtube videos are about next gen consoles...if you think this is only fanboys then i cant agree with that.

It's obviously not a deciding factor when average people buy consoles...but the image of a console definitely contributes to it, as well as the publicity the console gets on the net.

Also, interested to see if they are still going to implement this feature.

Damn, journalism just continues to get better and better /s. Anyone remember the old days when journalists actually had to check their info before reporting it?

Hey! They did a 360 :D

but all joking aside, it could be the original person that stated that this isn't happening was just frustrated that MS hasn't put thier full backing into the feature and used the media to stir things up, so MS top brass would finally take action. At least that's what I'm thinking.

Neither a ps4 nor an xb1 would make a good dev kit.

Check info? It was a direct statement from a MS exec. Wtf?
