(Shrug) I liked Resident Evil 5. It wasn't the best game of the generation or anything, but it wasn't bad either.

Yeah it had some good, creepy moments.  Personally, I really hate the two-character dynamic though (same with Zero).

+5 Pokemon
-7 Metal Gear Solid (now that Fallout has fallen out, this is the least interesting of those remaining, to me. Nothing against the series)

6 isn't that bad of a game either. It's just not a survival horror game. So I wouldn't even say it sucks, just that it doesn't deserve the title Resident Evil, at least not as a mainline game. Revelations was a fantastic game, I don't care what anyone says.

If RE6 hadn't been part of the main series (like RC or Outbreak) I could probably overlook it I guess, but I was really hoping for a return to form with that one.

Revelations was more the return to form game. I agree, 6 should have been the return to form, or titled as a spinoff.

True.  I really rushed through Revelations when I played it because I was borrowing it.  I bought it when I saw it on sale but I need to play it again.

I borrowed it too. If I didn't have such a huge backlog, and a huge to-buy list, I'd definitely get it. If I see it cheap somewhere I'll get it. Very replayable game, and I loved the multiplayer. I've heard Capcom wants to make future games in the series more like Revelations, so maybe there's hope?

eh...depends how you mean that. There's no Metroid game that is a bad game. There is a bad Metroid game, in Other M. Kind of like how Star Fox Adventures wasn't a bad game, just a bad Star Fox game, and Super Paper Mario isn't a bad game, just a bad Paper Mario game.

As for Pokemon, I agree with you about Black/White, but X/Y was a bit of a let-down. No substantial Post-Game mode, the legendary Pokemon are about as unique and powerful as the 3 legendary birds in the first game (basically useless except for maybe Zapdos) and all the new Pokemon are really lame. I did like how you could use an original starter though and catch MewTwo.

But again with Pokemon, it pushed the envelop a lot harder before then it does now. The reason why there are only 150 Pokemon in the original game is because that's all that would fit (They introduced 20 of the original Pokemon in Gold/Silver). Plus there was a lot more uniformity between Pokemon back then, except for Dragonite and MewTwo most of the better Pokemon in the game were about on par (Gyrados was on par with Lapras, Coloyster and Blastoise). Now, there is a lot of bias.

As for Pokemon improving, I disagree. Before Pokemon were severely limited on the TM's they could learn, now every decent Pokemon can learn at least 1 bad ass move. Plus the uniqueness of each Pokemon is crap now. Magicarp becoming Gyrados was a huge thing in 1995, since then where have I see another weak Pokemon becomes super strong? SlaKing in Ruby/Sapphire? He ignores orders all the time!

While I agree that Pokemon has been a little bit too stagnant and it needs to make some pretty big steps pretty soon, I still think that it has gotten progressively better. Black/White was amazing, and while X/Y didn't do a lot of things quite as well (Post game and Story most notably), it did take a lot of steps forward that made the game better as a whole (I personally love Mega Evolution, upgraded XP share, Fairy types, character customization, the world was interesting and the Pokemon design was great).

And speaking of pokemon design, XY was extremely strong and interesting, including some of my now-favorite pokemon. The starters were great (most notably Greninja), and the Honedge line was fantastic (I love the Stance Change of Aegislash), Evolution of Inkay was cool, Tyrantrum was a gread addition and Hawlucha may be my favorite Bird pokemon ever...

IMO X/Y was on par with Ruby/Sapphire. It's not a bad game, but you're mostly buying it for the new graphics engine.

It's funny how you list Fairy Type making Pokemon better, and I agree. What's the only other Pokemon game to introduce a new type now? At least in Gold/Silver the new type isn't so domineering (Fairy types are mega useful now), this is why I feel older games were better almost no Steel/Dark types were mega useful in Gold/Silver.

Also ......you're taste in Pokemon is terrible IMO. Compare Greninja to Blastoise or Feraligator (or even Gyrados/Lapras). It's just a huge letdown, Greninja is like a weird fighting Lickatung. Aegislash was cool, but I still prefer a more traditional Gengar (and not Mega-looks terrible), and while stuff like Tyrantrum were cool, they aren't original. Tryantrum is not that different from Tyranitar, they are both super strong T-Rex like Pokemon with a huge list of weaknesses.....the last cool Pokemon I can think of was Rayquaza and I believe that's based off a myth (aka better thought out).

This is why I like the first 2 gen pokemon the most. A lot of new Pokemon are based off silly concepts (X,Y, and Z shapes? a Keychain? some Gears in gen 5?). I feel that all of the original Pokemon were based off real animals/myths or were in general better thought out. IMO Dragonite and Mewtwo are the 2 best looking and well thought out Pokemon, but I'm also fond of Charizard, Blastoise and yes Pikachu. I just don't see as many unique Pokemon now, and a lot of Pokemon are just copy and pastes of older ones (like Rockenrola/Boldore/Gigalith).

I think Nintendo should accept public submissions and have a staff pick out the best for at least half of the new Pokemon.

Starfox Adventures was an awesome game!

and even at Metroid Standards there really isn't a bad game. Other M isn't special, but it was still worthwhile. It's not 9+/10 like the other Metroids, but it's still a solid 8/10.
