I disagree that smb3dw is not fun multiplayer, I think its the best thing about the game. I constantly fight with my girls to get the most points to have the crown, then they try to steal it from me etc. Its just loads of fun playing with my kids and family.
I already wrote about this a while ago, so I'm just gonna link to it.

TL;DR: Mario Kart isn't the savior people made it out to be. It's a herald that comes before the turning tide.
Single player/offline games aren't selling as much unin this day and age. The fact that Super Mari 3D World didn't move as many units is proof that local games are a dying breed in commercial terms
I don't think single player or local co-op games are even close to dead. Mario Kart has online, but the biggest draw is the couch co-op. The best selling single single platform game this gen so far (NSMBU) has been Couch Co-op. By that I mean Watch Dogs has sold more copies, but no single platform's sales of Watch Dogs have outsold NSMBU, Nintendo Land, or (soon) MK8.
We're just one generation removed from Couch Co-op being king thanks to casuals, and they could come back if the Wii U receives games that capture the same style.

It was a bit disappointing to me because I was looking forward to local co op matches with buddies, but I was expecting to be able to use the gamepad as a separate screen. Mario 3D World is awesome for local co op, I've had a lot of fun with it. |
Maybe in 1998 but this 2014 where you get 1080p on a 70 inch Flat screen. Thats like a 35 inch screen for 2 players. And 17 inch screen four players So screens are big enough to handle four screens and be comfortable. Picture this when 35 inch screen was huge back then and resolution wasnt talked about.

I play on a 55" tv and I just can't do split screen on it. Also, other games give you the option to this with Wii U and after playing local co op with the gamepad as a separate screen, split screen is nowhere near as awesome as playing that way.
But I get what your saying and I hear it all the time from my buddies who come over and play split screen in front of me. I just prefer the other way, it's one of the reasons I have grown to love my Wii U for local co op.
So does that mean it will start doing decently in the console race or what ?
If you really want to save the WiiU, I have just the thing for you.

55 ain't bad either 27 split in two s 11 four way. I dont know how old you are but remember playing Golden Eye on a 27 or 19 inch tube 4 ways damn that was brutal lol. But yeah the gamepad function is awesome reason why i think it is the best console of this gen.
