Nintendo fans bother me because they are blind (or just don't care) to the fact their company hasn't developed a new IP with an 80+ metascore in the past 11 years. The last two games that fit in this category were Pikmin and Animal Crossing which were 2001-2002. Seriously why don't Nintendo fans demand new games? We all know Mario and Zelda kick ass but wouldn't you like a better catalogue of games to compliment the those series? It really baffles me how they say nothing, and don't jump ship...or just keep a Wii/Wii U as a back up system for when a new Mario comes out.

No, they havent made a new AAA ip. Big difference.

That's what I said, a new IP. And I clarified it as an 80%+ game.

Yeah one game that just barely hit 80. And it's a sequel.

I'm not trying to say Nintendo is a bad company or anything, clearly they have tons of great franchises...but the majority are from the 80's and 90's...did they just run out of good ideas or get lazy, or what?

On the other hand there's Sony, they don't have the heavyhitters like Mario or Zelda...but they keep coming out with great new first party series all the time. PS1 brought Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot, PaRappa the Rapper, Spyro.....PS2 brought ICO, Jak and Daxter, SOCOM, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone, God of War.....and the PS3 graced us with Uncharted, Last of Us, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, etc. Even if none of the games I just named are as good as Mario or Zelda that's still a shitton of good games each generation to keep fans happy. All I'm asking is don't you wish Nintendo did this? I know they aren't as big of a company as Sony, but they still have the resources for a couple new series each generation on top of all the classics.

Edit: They actually have upwards of 6 new IP's 80%+ as Rol pointed out to me. But my point stands.

Yes, your imparciality impress me so much... Just go to the GT7 thread and see some Sony fan bashing the greatest sony IP. Or a lot of fans complaining about the TLOU:R.

They aren't Sony fans then. They are gamers who prefer Sony consoles but don't have the blind loyalty that Soonerman is referring to. Two different breeds that some find it hard to tell the difference.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

What did I miss? I'm talking about new IP's here, not the 100 mario games that automatically got 90's because the word Mario is there.

Nintendo since 2001, new IPs with 80+ Metascores, Pikmin and Animal Crossing excluded:

1. Eternal Darkness - 92 (GC)
2. Xenoblade Chronicles - 92 (Wii)
3. Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - 87 (Wii; second game, but the IP was new for the West.)
4. Wii Sports Resort - 80 (Wii; second game, new IP that didn't make it past the threshold with its first entry.)
5. Wii Fit - 80 (Wii)
6. The Last Story - 80 (Wii)

WiiWare games and handhelds removed from original list

Okay that's my bad, I should have clarified two more things:

1. that I only really meant home consoles...I didn't even look at Gameboy/DS/3DS. I'm a console gamer so I failed to consider/specify handhelds. Not dissing handhelds, but in my head I was really just thinking on GC (after 2001), Wii, and Wii U so far, they haven't done too much.

2. I also don't mean arcade games...I'm talking about retail full price games here, not $5-10 download games. Not saying they aren't fun or should be disregarded, but you can't really compare games you named like ArtStyle or Fluidity to Mario or Animal Crossing in terms of content and total quality. They might be fun and great value for the money but not what I meant.

Okay so first off, my apologies, even after all my revisions (handhelds/downloadable games) Nintendo does have 6 new franchises of 80%+ Metacritic quality since 2002. You got me. And even with top notch lame ass trolling, arguing that Wii Sports Resort and Sin and Punishment maybe shouldn't count....and noting that Eternal Darkness was 2002....I could say "okay big deal they have 3 home console  new IP's over 80% in the past 11 years" but whatever that's still 3 and my original argument was off. I was wrong.

So I've admitted my argument was wrong, but still can you honestly say 6 80% (home console) new IP type games in the past 12 years is acceptable from a company that once graced our homes with the likes of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, etc.? My point is simply what happened? Are they out of new ideas? Is all their attention on handhelds/motion control? Do they not care?

Conclusion/TL;DR/Whatever: I was wrong, you got me. They have a few new IP's since 2002 worth noting....and also handheld/WiiWare stuff if you want to count that. But my point stands, Nintendo is all but out of ideas, they don't make new series like they used to, and If I had been a Nintendo fan when I was younger, I can pretty much guarantee I wouldn't be now...I'd have moved on to Sony or MS during the 6th generation like most everybody else.

yeah, I can agree with this

You PC fanboy description is wrong, but everything else is pretty solid.

PC owners get annoyed that they splash out a mountain of cash (which many don't have a problem with spending) on a super powerful PC....only for games to require a fraction of the power on offer due to being capped for the consoles. The "loss of exclusives" has nothing to do with the issue (and personally I don't think even exists). What pisses them all off is that they have a platform that is essentially able of running 9th gen games and deliver new gaming experiences....only to be stuck with the same generic rehash of a game from 7 years ago due to consoles.

This. I agree with everything else, for the most part.

No true Scotsman.

Lair is a terrible game. Am I no longer a Sony fan?

This is a perspective of fanboys from the four current big groups.  Sorry Ouya and iOS fans.  You really don't matter.

PC fans.  While there are  those that do have the PC that can run games at max settings, the PC fanboys are elitists even if they don't have the rig to back it up and I feel they talk down the consoles even more because they're losing exclusives by the minute because the initial increase in power of consoles like the Xbox, 360, and PS3. [[[I vaguely understand your last point but could you reword it?]]]

Nintendo fans.  First party games are a lot of the time great games, no denying that, but Nintendo fans put every Nintendo first party title on a pedestal regardless of quality.  Did a new game just get announced?  They'll hype it up to no end when seeing nothing more but a five second scene or maybe even a logo.  When Nintendo announces a new character on a video game, it's almost as big as Nintendo announcing a game, and you'll see endless hype for those characters until they actually see new games created for them.  The fanbase is pretty blind to third party titles as they can't be as good as first party in their eyes, even when exclusive on their own systems some of the time.  Unlike Sony fans, Nintendo fans are actually critical of how the company is being ran. [[[Third parties do often get overlooked on Nintendo consoles but that is because Nintendo consoles all too often get seemingly random downgraded versions; I have hope certain choice studios will get pass that over time. Also that thing about hyping characters within games is almost purely a Smash Bros thing and in its case every new fighter is basically 'Darth Vader in Soul Caliber'. Hyrule Warriors is the exception and that game is both nearly out and cleverly pushing its unique selling point.]]]

Sony fans.  The complete opposite of Nintendo fans.  While they will shower endless praise on certain first party titles or series, you'll have no problem finding that same Sony fan showing disgust towards many other first party titles.  There's the rare super fan that thinks every first party Sony title is good.  Most Sony fans are apologetic towards any bad decisions the company makes.  The Vita has been out for over two years with less than 25 exclusives, a lot of games that are ported, especially when they're funded by Sony, has near unplayable framerate issues, the PS4 has four retail exclusives from launch in 2013 all the way to 2015.  Regardless what you say about the companies mismanagement of the product, the Sony fan will be there to protect it.  [[[I've seen a number of Sony fans admit the Vita is pretty much dead - usually in comparison to the Wii U and while ignoring the 3DS's evidence that the handheld industry still has some fire in its belly but its still a confession of a bad decision, even if the reason they think it was a bad decision seems crazy.]]]

Microsoft fans.  This fanbase is actually the most varied but they seem to be more about defending their console now more than anything.  You've got your super fans, backpedallers who stated they wanted the best version of games which is why they go with the 360 but now they're with the Xbox One instead of PS4, and then you've got the people  that like the Xbox consoles the most, but prefer other games. [[[I think the popular stereotype for them is that they call gay sounding lads 'n****rs', black sounding lads 'f****ts', and wonder why people question if they know what those words mean. Ofcourse that stereotype is mainly because Xbox is popularly envisioned as having the best online.]]]

All this is based on my experience with the more hardcore internet fanbase rather than the casual types for each console.  Just a generalization of how I see the fanbases.  So this is my opinion before I get a post saying "in your opinion" like many people feel obligated to do.

Well with that meta score, you'd be forgiven to say that. Nobody looks credible hyping up legit bad games.

Just like I would never say Too Human is a must buy. There is always a line, even for us ;)

Some Nintendo fans really confuse me...
Particularly those that lambast newly announced first-party titles for not being the remake or sequel they want, all the while demanding new IP's...
Remember the rage when Super Mario 3D World wasn't Super Mario Galaxy 3, or when the E3 round table was for Codename S.T.E.A.M. and not a Majora's Mask remake???

Have a nice day...

Or the people who think Splatoon should be a Mario game?
