Forums - Sony Discussion - Shuhei Yoshida: Only Four Out of Ten PlayStation Games Make Money, but Sony Will Always Support Talent

Well they have already closed a lot of studios and cut partnerships with independent studios on games that didn't sell well. Its better to focus on a handful of successful IPs and let indies/3rd party do the rest. Already seen a decrease in the amount of games for the Vita and PS4 will likely have less than the PS3 in the long run.

This business is going down the toilet honestly.

When Sony, who is supposed to be the lead console maker is saying they basically lose money on 60% of the titles they make ... I'm sorry, but that just strikes me as an industry that's gone insane.

love comments like these , they are super funny cause i remenber ps3 had them too in the first year, after a while the people who made vanished. People forgets about 2013,2012 ,2011 etc :)

i like the fact sony does not stick with 3 franchises in a gen

Love comments like these. They assume that I'm attacking when my post has absolutely nothing to do with their precious company.

because people here dont know you right?

My comment had to do with a math pet peeve of mine, if I see a fraction that can be broken down, I want it to be broken down. If I see "3 out of 9 games" I want it to say "1 out of 3"

You assumed I was attacking, just admit you were wrong and just move along.

I read you comment and that's the firs thing that I thought...2 out of 5 is a better ratio than 4 out of 10 because it's reduced. If some people thought you were insinuating that you were saying Sony had 5 games versus 10, that's silly just for the fact that 10 is still too small of a number. In the end, it just sounded like a math thing, but many here are looking for a reason to defend/offend over a console of their choice.

I always knew Sony wasn't greedy. And they always supported talent since the PS1 days, so many games that could be called indie started back in those days. Very good to know they will put Talent always first and just then the rest.

Yeah, thats one of the reasons why i like them, they always support games that are actually great but they dont promote said games, theres almost no marketing for those games and therefore they dont sell really well... games like Disgaea, Yakuza, The Guided Fate Paradox etc.

its hard to say that this games would sell well with marketing (because of how niche they are), but they are good games that i enjoy and im glad they support them.

It's not Sony's responsibility to market games that they do not develop.

this the reason why they are dropping the amount of producing AAA games...

If you expect to not have profit and that it's niche you can't put much money on advertising.

i said that in my comment, and i appreciate that despite knowing that this games (more than likely with or whitout marketing) wont sell well, Sony still supports them.

It was my mistake, sorry;

They always support talent? Liar! Sony didn't sponsor Bayonetta, and also not a new game from Platinum, like MS and Nintendo both did.

Sony already have SSM to make hack and slash games for them.

Well, I may just be a simple small town guy, and I may not understand these big fancy silicon valley so and sos, but that seems like a terrible business model. Sadly, not just a Sony thing.
