Witcher MOBA Game Announced, Dev Promises It Won't Be "Pay-To-Win"

Free-to-play multiplayer game for up to six players launching later this year for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows tablets.

Next year's open-world role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not the only new game fans of the fantasy series have to look forward to. The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red today announced The Witcher: Battle Arena, an upcoming free-to-play MOBA developed externally at Fuero Games in association with CD Projekt Red.

The game will be released this holiday for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows tablets.

The game is described as a "fast, fun, and accessible MOBA game" that is based of course in the Witcher universe. It should appeal to veteran MOBA players and newcomers alike, CD Projekt Red says. And they assure fans that the game has been designed with "fairness" in mind, which means there are no "pay-to-win" elements. Every piece of in-game content can be unlocked through gameplay.

"Our system is honest, well balanced, and doesn't keep you playing for ages to unlock something," CD Projekt Red says. "If you want to get something unlocked faster, you can purchase it for a reasonable price. It's that simple."

The Witcher: Battle Arena includes solo and teamplay options. You can play with friends against bots or by yourself if, as CD Projekt Red says, "your Internet decides to take the day off." As far as characters go, The Witcher: Battle Arena will offer "unique" heroes that have distinct skills. There will be eight heroes available at launch, including Zoltan Chivay, Letho of Gulet, Eithne of Brokilon, Golem, Saskia of Aedirn, Philippa Eilhart, The Operator, and Iorveth.

More details about The Witcher: Battle Arena are available on the game's website.
