Forums - Gaming - Prediction- we won't see Kingdom Hearts 3 until 2018, at the earliest

When will Kingdom Hearts 3 come out?

2015 12 11.21%

2016 60 56.07%

2017 24 22.43%

2018 3 2.80%

Later than 2018 3 2.80%

Not this gen, delayed to next 5 4.67%

Total:107

I'm hoping...

FFXV: Fall 2015
KH3: Fall 2016

Knowing SE though, each title will be delayed 2 more years.

that would suck.

They are not making an engine from the ground up for KH3, they are using the luminous engine that was already done.  Also ofc there is gonna be new worlds, there was new worlds in KH2, that didn't make it take 6 years to develop.  I'll say it again since you keep avoiding the question, what specifically is gonna take this game 6 years to develop.

Even Nomura thinks that they announced the game too early.

http://gematsu.com/2013/06/kingdom-hearts-iii-announced-a-little-early

And they are using an existing engine, but they will have to do more than just some minor modifications.

And did you even read my post? I said that Kingdom Hearts 2 ported over almost all the graphical elements from Kingdom Hearts 1. The team did not have to spend any time developing those (which is what takes the longest), so all they had to do was use the existing elements and even worlds and just add to them a little.

With this, you are developing for a completely different generation. All your graphical elements must be built from the ground-up.

Ofc they announced it early, the game had only been in development for 1 year, that proves nothing.  Your really grasping for anything now.

I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt since you've never played KH1, but no there was not just minor modifications, KH2 looks leaps and bounds better than KH1.  They did not "port over almost all the graphical elements."  The fact that you think the team "did not spend any time developing those" in KH2 is laughable.

If you think elements from Kingdom Hearts 1 weren't reused, power to you.

They were though. A bit better does not mean they built Kingdom Hearts 2 from the ground-up. There's no way they would be able to finish a game that fast if they did. The engine, perhaps, but textures, meshes, etc. were undoubtedly reused in many places.

                                                                                                               You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Seeing as the fad right now is to delay Japanese developed games, it's obviously gonna be delayed. I'm thinking 2016.

KH2 came out 3 years after KH1, that's not that "fast."  I don't even know how you can claim they reused all these things like the textures when you haven't even played the game.  Here's aladdin in KH1 and KH2, they look completely different and it does look like it was rebuilt for KH2.

I'm thinking Early 2016 for Kingdom Hearts III, like January to Spring time. And if Square Enix feels like being productive then they could get Final Fantasy XV out by Holiday 2016 as well, although I'm expecting sometime in 2017.

So, still before The Last Guardian?

Pff no way its coming that early!

On a serious note though I certainly hope we don't have to wait that long.

Alright, let's all stop making fun of Square Enix for their development cycles and get realistic. The game's probably coming end of 2016. Beginning of 2017 at latest. That's plenty of time and still a very long development. It doesn't depend on FFXV being done to finish it, I don't think the same team's on both of them. Just Nomura as director.

The optimistic inside me says 2017 at the earliest but my heart tells me that there's a veeeery slight chance that it'll be 2016. The pessimistic inside me tells me that you're probably right.
