Forums - Sony - What is Playstation TV?

Playstation TV was announced a while back but it got brought back up at this year’s E3. It seems like a cool idea, but people still want to know what exactly Playstation TV is. So I have compiled a list of all the features you should expect from Playstation TV when it comes out this year.

  • First off let’s start with the fact that the Playstation TV allows you to stream your PS4 games to any other TV in the house. For Example: your PS4 is hooked up in your living room and you are playing a game there. If someone comes over and wants to watch TV instead of unhooking the PS4, if you have PS TV in another room, you can simply stream your game from your PS4 to your PS TV without having to hook up anything and from what we have seen, it should be a very easy and smooth transition.

  • Don’t have a Vita but want to play those few Vita games that catch your eye? No problem! With the PS TV you can simply download the Vita game you want or go buy a physical copy and insert the game into the dedicated Vita spot.

  • Playstation Now ready! This is great! As long as PS Now starts working properly. PS now is still in beta but it’s a great concept. Rent any PS game for the service and stream it directly to your PS Vita, PS4, PS3, and now the PS TV. So now technically you won’t even have to own a PS4 or PS3 to play the games that will be part of that service. Isn’t that cool?

  • APPS! That right its going to have all those great apps you want, like Netflix, Hulu, music unlimited (people use that right?) and more to come!

  • More games! the PS TV will also support the download of PSP games and PS one classics!

Ok so there are all the main features now let’s get down to brass tax. This device is compatible with the Dualshock 3 and Dualshock 4. There are two price points. The PS TV itself is only $100 (pretty good deal if you ask me for all the features), and there is a bundle that comes a Dualshock 3, 8 gig memory card and a digital voucher for the Lego Movie Videogame. To wrap things up the PS TV comes out this fall and I for one can’t wait to pick one up!

So there is no point in buying a vita anymore?
Well its not portable like this, but you can still play the games for just 100$.
I might actually buy PS TV.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

Seems like a cool idea if you don't want to play on a handheld.

Well it's not like anyone was buying Vita anyway 😁

Before you buy one though try and get a list of compatible games against the games you Want to play. Most games with mandatory touch controls obviously can't be played.

considering buying this just to play uncharted GA hopefully its compatible

Stupid question, but the PlayStation TV is the VitaTV in Japan right?

Yes, the Vita has a bad name for itself in the west though so they dropped it.

I will be buying one of these in addition to my handheld Vita!

Kinda solves the problem I had with some games where I wasn't sure whether I'd rather have a home console or handheld version.
