As you guys know, I am planning on buying a PS4 soon. I need to prepare for this purchase and get a set up for it. The issue is, I don't have an entertainment stand or table. This means, the PS4 has to go on the floor. (Can't rearrange) I want to know where the fans on the system are located. Can I just put the PS4 on top of a laptop mat? (Regular one, not one with a fan) if not, can I put it on a steel rack or will that mess up something with the electric?

I guess you could put it on laptop mat. At long as it's levelled. I made legs for mine out of jar lids to suspend it so it doesn't get heated underneath.

I don't have it yet and never saw one in person...

Would this work better? (So it can breathe underneath) it can sit on the top.

I guess that could work. The bulk of the heat it generates is at the top righthand part of the console. So as long as that part is elevated it should be fine.

not just on the back theyre along the sides too, on the upper and lower lip, though because of the design there can still be airflow to there even if you completely push it up against a flat surface.

To be specific, the side vents are the intakes, rear vent is the output.

I would recommend just laying it flat on the floor. hell laying two dvd boxes side by side would be enough. or you could always just sit it on top of the box it came in, until you have a tv center in place.

just remember to keep the floor area clean regularly to make sure no dust or hair fly into it... 

The fans are located on the left, right and back. As long as you make sure nothing is directly obstructing them it will be fine on the floor, it's where i put mine when i feel like being a lazy slob and gaming from bed lol.

You can put the PS4 on top of pretty much anything, but it's best not to put it on top/under anything that generates its own heat (so other computing devices). A laptop mat would be fine, so would a steel rack. You don't need to worry about the power supply either, it's built into the console.
