Forums - Microsoft - "Kinect's dead, no matter what Phil says" - Article

The kinect is just an add on, and like most add ons, it gets about 12 games and that's it. They should never have forced it on the ONE and they are paying the price. The motion gaming worked for the Wii because that was it's whole thing. The kinect is just an accessory that got it's brief surge of games out of the gate, had enough success to encourage a larger investment of time and money and then crashed right after like any other fad. The kinect was interesting and maybe I'm just old fashioned to think gaming is a plastic controller in your hand and your ass on a couch but good riddance to the kinect, let it die MS and look back on the 360 for everything you did right and try to do as much of that as you can again and settle for 2nd this gen.

well my Kinect 1 my Kinect 2 wifey, me and almost anyone I know with an XBO with Kinect desagree... since they run every day and are for a big part the main input source on the Xbox one/360 when not gaming....

Too bad there aren't enough people like you to make it a viable product. The market as a whole rejected Xb one+Kinect, not so much because of Kinect per se, but that Kinect made the whole Xb one package unattractive to the market.

We'll see if Kinectless actually does anything to help. The first week of Kinectless sales has hardly been a "we're back!" moment for Xb one. So dumping Kinect may not do all that much for Xb one in the end.

Kinect is alive, kinect games are dead.

Not gonna lie, I forgot about the Kinect entirely, since after E3 till this thread. Granted I forgot about the PS EyeCamera too, but to call it dead is an understatement imo.

Why would you think about Kinect? All the games for it are catering to a casual market.

For the average user its just a nice accessory for voice commands, chatting, Skype, etc.

Perhaps.

Also, this early in I don't think the PS4 and X1 have a large casual audience. Its hard to sell casual games on a platform with little casual audience.

Good article. There is also a PR damage of selling it as indispensable and killing it just 6 months after, and the author just scratch that. For me this was a big thing, that says i just can't trust those guys...

I agree, Xbox needs a differential or despite their thir party support, they are going to do Wii U levels. Third party support means little when PS4 has it too. We saw that with Watch Dogs and are going to see it again with Destiny.

i don't think M$ will ditch it after they invest so much cost on it, next it will probably use for integrate with XB1 VR headset just like PS4 camera...
